Need To Vent --- Best Buy Blows!!!!

Bought a LCD TV from Best Buy a day after christmas this year. 40" Samsung LNT4071 LCD TV. Rated the best TV on the market at the time we bought it for a 40". Great love the TV.

We turned it on about a month and a half ago an noticed a thin black line had developed across the screen, kind of like a line of pixels burnt out. OK call Best Buy the people we bought it from and say hay we have a problem what do we do. They say we need to setup service through them and them only. Keep in mind this TV is still well under the manufactures warranty. They come out and can't figure the problem out. So they say they are going to replace 3 boards ($300-$400 a pop) fine they are paying for it so whatever.

Last friday they were supposed to call between 7 and 9am to give us another 2 hours time frame of when they will be out, and no call. I call there service dept, asking what the deal was. Oh the techs kid is sick, ahh ok understandable but where is the call to me letting me know! I am using my vacation time from work to be home for this crap.

Girlfriend calls Samsung asking what we can do. They say we should have never went through Best Buy since it is a MANUFACTURES warranty. And that they would have been out with one of there techs. And that the Best Buy dipchits are certified but are not there warranty techs WTF? This sends me over the deap edge because now they can't do anything because Best Buy is already involved.

Call Best Buy back and ask why they never said to call Samsung. They say we are certified to repair. FU SAMSUNG says they should have been dealing with it and they have techs with all the boars in there trucks and would have fixed it the same day, and now I am waisting my time and money WAITING FOR YOU ***GERS!

So we reschedule for TODAY! They are supposed to call between 7 and 9am and give me another 2 hour time frame on when they will be out. AGAIN NO CALL! I AM ABOUT TO BLOW A GASKET RIGHT NOW! I call them and ask what the hell there deal is. She can't get ahold of the tech, and also left a message with his supervisor to call me ASAP!

I am giving them and hour to call me......

WTF else should I be doing in this case. I have a $2500 TV with a friggen anoying line through the screen and they won't fix the damn thing!

I am about to tell them I am going to call the BBB or a lawyer just to scare them but not sure if it will do anything.

I actually used to kind of work for Best Buy Headquarters and never had a problem but I honestly will NEVER buy anything from them again.

I wonder if different BB stores do things differently, we had a good experience w/ them.

We had a 27" flatscreen (Westinghouse) here at work. The screen would just go black every once in awhile (audio still worked). We dug out our receipt and had about a week before the warranty ran out (almost a yr old). Took it to the local BB store and they said they'd have to send it away to Westinghouse. About 2 weeks go by and they said it would cost more to fix it than it would be for a new TV. They gave us another TV of the same value on the spot.

EDIT: Could be the manufacturer???

box the thing up and exchange it at another best buy... my samsung has been freaking awesome! love the TV... but you got me worried now!!! Good thing i have a 4 year warranty

Mach, sorry to hear your troubles with the TV.
Most on the 4M know I'm a retired electronics guy. I try to keep up with some of the trends in electronics. I subscribe to a few internet electronics industry news blogs.

Here's one from this morning, re: Samsung. (Its a Korean mfgr, btw)

I found the list of executive names amusing.

You need to contact the service manager: Who-Flung-Dung. LOL. :D

MUNICH, Germany — Samsung Electronics announced a comprehensive reshuffle in its management. Besides the CEO, the company also now has a new top manager in its semiconductor business.
As CEO and Vice Chairman the company named Yoon-Woo Lee who hitherto was responsible for the company's external relationships. Lee will replace current CEO Jong-Yong Yun who will continue to work for the company as standing adviser. Yun has led the Korean electronics giant since 1997.

The President of Samsung's Semiconductor Business, Chang-Gyu Hwang, has been promoted to Vice Chairman and head of Corporate Technology Operations. He will replace Ki-Tae Lee who in the future will lead the company's External Relations operations.

Oh-Hyun Kwon, currently overseeing Samsung Semiconductor's LSI Division, has been promoted to President of the Samsung Electronics' entire semiconductor business. Hyung-kyu Lim, who heads Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, has received the responsibilities to set up a team dedicated to developing new businesses.

The company justified the changes with the "urgent need to find new growth engines amid fierce competition in the electronics industry," it informed in a press release. At the same time, it announced further changes in the management below the top level.

It really isn't the stores fault at all. It is Best Buys Service department that I am upset with.

I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED A CALL THIS MORNING! LOL WHAT A JOKE!

I called up the store I got it from and explained myself to the GM who i kind know from actually doing store repairs on there automation system.

He told me to bring the TV in for a swap for a brand new one of equal.

He agreed with me that the Service Dept should not be giving me the run around and should just do there job.

So I am off in alittle bit to pick a new TV up.

It is good that they are making this right but still the SD pisses me off. And I told the guy I wasn't mad at the store or samsung.

****ty deal man, ill head to circuit city for my next purchase

Well had to jump out of work for 2 hours to get it taken care of and I just got back to work.

BB made it right for us which I thought was good. I still hate there Service dept, and the store is going to find out what went wrong.

They took our 07 Samsung LNT4071F and gave us a new Samsung LN40650 in exchange. Heck of alot better TV then we had and it is an 08 model with more features.

Plus they gave use reward bucks for the new TV as well. I was really appreciative to them for doing it because they usually don't do that type of thing.

did you buy the extended warranty? they might have confused it with that, since if I recall correctly, the extended warranty offered by best buy, would get repaired through best buys service department. It could have been a simple mistake by the employee you spoke to when you called in, thinking your warranty work is getting done under best buys extended warranty, rather than the manufacturers warranty.

Extended warranties are not all they are cracked up to be. I NEVER buy them. You read horror stories all over and have heard first hand countless stories of how it is not worth the money.

So there should have been no mixup.
