Need some insight on your state. looking to move still.

hmm.. Im cool with that, but the wife prob. would have a prob. have an issue with that. I didnt think there was that much snow around there. Do they close due to slides or just for alot of things?

When the snow comes it dumps and they close it. slides are part of it, but I think the sheer volume and then the drivers. Since it's the main pass there's lots of trucks and traffic volume to cause problems. You transition from full winter at the top to wet roads at the bottom and the stuff in between is SLICK!! It would be a tough choice with kids.

Where are you moving from?

Bellingham is a cool place to live with the water out your front door...You can ride until July on Baker, Baker ski area is close by, Whistler close by, Vancouver close by, less than 6hrs to Revy, and cost of living is low. Whatcom lake in your back yard, Harrison Lake about 40 minutes away, Seattle about 1.5 hrs, it just goes on and on. Also, when your kids decide to go to college they could go to WWU which is a really neat little school. If you want your kids to grow up in a big city, then Seattle is cool. If you want them to stay out of the city unless you take them there then Bellingham is great.

My $.02

Gotya,. Yeah prob not the best choice for the family then. I live in Western Maryland. We get between 100-200 inches of snow per winter where I live, which is a big difference from the rest of the state which gets like 10-20 inches. So the wife is used to the winter driving and all for the most part. Ofcourse deep snow isnt a prob for me, but I can def. see the road closures being worrysome if the wife gets stuck etc.

My last trip to stewart, I left terrace and drove 4 hours to have to turn around 15 minutes from stewart and drive back to terrace for the night then drive all the way back in the morning due to a slide. I dont think thats something I want to do frequently where I lived.

I like what I have been reading about bellingham so far. Just worried if the job opportunites will be there. I definitly dont want to live in the city. I have never lived in a city in my life. Not for me at all. But I would like to be semi close for schools and work.

The North bend to maple valley would be good. This is a link for a school report card web site very good info but one of the most telling stats for the whole state is when you look at the free lunches given out by each school. the best scools and the best places to live in the state have the lowest ammount of free lunches.

Wow, that is a good link I had to look at the schools here.
The elementry down the street where my kid went had 45% free/reduced lunch
The one across town had 87%

I should of paid more attention in school.. So free luches mean worse schools? Which schools are in the north bend area and maple valley area?

Honestly, neither of us have been to anchorage. Her aunt and a few cousins live there. Her biggest issue is she says that AK is full of child molestors and high cost of living. I have been trying everything I can to convince her.

The easiest way to sell someone on alaska is to bring them here. The cost of living varies depending on area, food and fuel are usually more, housing is often less. I wouldn't worry about child molesters...MJ is dead

Another option move to Arizona!!!! where I am currently, see what your missing....
