Need some insight on your state. looking to move still.

go deep...consider alaska...soldotna..or anchorage..soldotna is a small town..anchorage a small city..awesome everything outdoors wise..economy is still busy construction wise(and should remain so) we have excellent schools..and friendly people....cost of living is slightly more then in the states..but the pay is quite a bit higher...several forum members have moved here recently if it interest you you can start a new thread and get some input...

That is my #1 pick honestly. But I cant talk the wife into it. I need some help for that to happen. :) She even has family in anchorage.

Maple Valley

When I moved here 15 years ago from the midwest, I looked very closely at Maple Valley and North Bend. At the time, Maple Valley won hands down. Today......with the traffic, one road in/out, and over crowded schools.....I would look long and hard at North Bend. You would have a great life in either city. Good luck.

I liked Maple Valley, but like Cle Elum a whole lot more.....No rain in 2 1/2 months, sun every day this time of year.....

I'm surprised we allow you to stay.......

Has she been here?

I've lived in WA and AK...they both have advantages but if you want water and mountains south central AK can't be beat, much more conservative than WA, MUCH better riding, better snow, better terrain, less crowds, more jobs, better paying jobs, did I mention better riding?

Plus...you could sell your place in stewart and buy one in Valdez. Very similar terrain and a shorter drive.

North Bend...

Ya' either have to be gay, wear orange, or be a conservative.... Those are your only options.

Not sure I understand the Orange.. I've worn orange hunting my entire life. I would rather stay away from the gays, liberals and homeboys. Not sounding like WA is for me so far, but I know AK has a big amount of the same people.

Honestly, neither of us have been to anchorage. Her aunt and a few cousins live there. Her biggest issue is she says that AK is full of child molestors and high cost of living. I have been trying everything I can to convince her. It just feels right to be there for me. Only issue I have is the long day light months. Must be an adjustment.

No way in hell, i am selling my place in stewart. I love that place.:D

I love Maple Valley for........thinking.........
Sure Art, People are gonna believe you do a lot of that!:D

I live at the base of a large hill (4500ft) just East of the town of Sultan.
While I don't really recommend a move to Sultan if you still have all your teeth and you don't have a relative known as "Bubba" or "Uncle Dad" there are some GREAT areas on the outskirts of the neighboring town of Monroe.

We're right off highway 2 (Stevens Pass), Closer to Mt Baker than the North Bender overs, one hour over the pass from the absolute best family riding grooming with a massive trail network (not a lot of challenging stuff though) in Lake Wenatchee, around 30 minutes from some real good "Secret" riding areas.
We're about 30 minutes from the Bay in downtown Everett with a few good launches with a lot of great salmon fishing.
Within about an hour and a half I can have my boat launched in the waters near the San Juans for a boating vacation. ( Google the San Juan Islands or better yet the Gulf Islands in B.C. for more info)
I'm about an hour from Seattle.
And best of all we tend to float liberals face down in the Skykomish River which happens to be an outstanding Steelhead river. (300 yards out my back door, a lot closer during flood season  )

Here's a few links to the area...

Thanks alot for the links and info. I will check into them right now!:D

North Bend is the place IMO. Yes, it gets double the rain of Seattle but it just rains harder not really more often. On a lot of the grey marine flow days when seattle is socked in, it's sunny and nice in NB. I was born and raised here and I would say it's the best place in Western WA for out door freaks who want easy access to Seattle, 25 min..

The Issaquah school district is one of the good ones also.

As far as the pass goes you have to be prepaired to not make it home on a lot of days due to it being closed. Check out this link.

Just recently purchased a place on Snoqualmie pass, closing on it this week, North Bend was my second choice being a small town that is close to everything.....

Living at the pass with kids is tough. We have a number of people on the baseball team and other stuff that live up at the pass and they are constantly down in town doing the kids stuff. They have talked about the challenge of the time for driving back and forth, constantly, and having to deal with the pass closing down in the winter for multiple days and being stuck up or down at the time. It's only a 30 minute drive or so, but those activities for the kids will be a challenge.

Monroe, as stated before, is also a good location. I do outside sales and the commute to north or south is the easiest from NB. 45 minutes to Tacoma, 45 minutes to Lynnwood and just 30 to Seattle and the traffic is virtually non existant compared to watching those poor people sitting going the opposite way. With the lakes and terrain, the roads will influence where you live for the commute to where you will work. I have an office in Mountlake Terrace and Fife and both are about the same time to get to, on the way home traffic is worse at the MLT store so it takes 20 minutes longer to get home when I go up there.
