Ok, bought the boy an 1984 excel. I want to raise the bars so he can easily stand while riding. I can either by 2" risers from RSI for $30 and call it good or completely change things ups and spend like $200+ and do all new/take off to achieve what I want.

He will be on this sled for only 1-2 years if he progresses like I am expecting him to. What do you guys suggest?

I did new bars, 2" risers, and adaptor to new style post on my mtn max
ran new grips modified brake handles. I know its not the same as yours but I was 10x happier than just doin a basic block riser. I needed 6" rise on mine due to being 6'7" tall. I like the change in bar angle, they felt sturdier, and I can change all the angles exactly as I want. Just my $.02.

This is not my sled, its my 8 yr old boys sled. Hence why I only would need a 2" riser. The plan is to move him from this in a year or 2 to a phazer that is set up for off trail riding that my daughter is currently on.

I would start with the block. Then see if he needs anything else. Why put a lot of money into something that he may not need. Specially if it is only for 2 yrs. If you need more you can add it as you find it.

How does it fit him now standing and sitting (kid isn't going to want to have ape hangers on the trail back out). If a 2" riser helps some it may be all that's needed without spending more $$ than the sled will be worth if he is moving to one you have set up in 1-2 years. We all rode for years before we were introduced to handlebar risers, so at 8 that 2" may be more than enough, especially depending on how agressive he is.

That is exactly what I was thinking. The current height is low for him, as he is as tall as a normal 10 yr old. The 2" is cheap and puts him at the right height with out being ape hangers while sitting. Even though I want him to have an awesome custom sled like some of the ones I see others on here doing for their kids, I also would rather spend the money on gas for riding! Especially if its only for a year or two then moving up.

Thanks guys!

I think spending money on gas for more seat time will benefit him more then adding all the extra crap will.
