Need Help

Need help finding a place to ride out west.

We were going to go to our usual spot to ride in the UP on Dec 7 for a few days but they do not have any snow. There are four of us looking to head west from Chicago. We would leave Wednesday at noon and leave to come home early sunday or late saturday night.

We would be trailering snowmobiles out. All sleds crossover sleds. We all have been riding for 10 + years. No one has ridden out west yet.

Need a cheap place to stay and good conditions to ride in.

Most of the riding we do in the UP is flat land boondocking.

Thank

Rob

Bighorns are rideable, and they are about the closest to you as well... Your crossover sled would do alright here and we should have some more snow by then... Be sure to bring your avy gear!

I'd bag the Dec plans and wait for the west to get riding snow. Limited opportunity so make it WORTH THE TIME, MONEY, AND EFFORT.

I honestly cannot fathom dragging a mediocre sled half way across the country to go mtn riding.

GUYS: hop a plane, rent a new PRO daily, get a guide/instructor, do the mtn riding specialty lodge experience in a great mtn riding zone. The money is far better spent! Costs way more yes but so worth it if done correctly.

I disagree with F-Bomb. You can have all kinds of fun on your "mediocre sleds"(that comment was bs imho).
The big horns has some decent snow right now, the are predicting another foot or so on Wed/wed night. You can stay at Bear lodge and ride right from the room. You'de have all kinds of fun. Watch out for land mines though!!!!

I agree with Turbomatt, even riding a phazer was fun when done properly! But like F-bomb said, it might be cheaper to fly some where and rent as opposed to driving all the way out towing(gas aint cheap), but if your determined to bring your sleds out don't let what F-bomb says deter you, crossover sleds will do fine in almost all but epic conditions. That said, your best bet would be the big horns in wyoming, or the snowies which are also in Wyoming, or perhaps even boulder Colorado. Those 3 all seem about the same distance away judging only from the interstates connecting chicago to the west.

I think either way would be a blast. Bringing your own sled and sharing expenses has to be cheaper tho so that is the route that i would take... The horns need some snow before it is good, the warm weather this week makes for some crappy riding. Foot and a half forcasted by thursday and more in the extended forcast so maybe by the time you get here it will be ok. Your sleds will be fine here, i see lots of people riding older sleds and having a ball. My brother rode a crossover sled a couple years ago and had more fun than he could shake a stick at.

December snow could be iffy anywhere.

Bring your own sleds...ride them for a day or two...and if so inclined rent a mtn sled for a day and see the difference.

This place in Colorado has it all and reasonable prices too

I would also suggest the above place. I was in a similar situation as you are. I live in the west suburbs of Chicago and travelled to TML twice last year. Prior to that most of my riding was done in the UP. Give me a call and I can tell ya more about it if you want. And maybe we can even plan a trip together sometime.

Don't mean to sound like a tard but what is the UP? I'm in northeast WA and ride all over several states but have never heard of UP. Is it a typo for IP (Island Park)? Just wondering. EW
