need help..sled breakdown on trails today..help please

my 2006 fusion 700 was a little hard to start today and it stalled a few times..i finally got it going ,stopped for some gas, and then rode a good few miles..it started back firing a little bit then basically lost power..still starts but no power to move and it back fires continuously and sounds like a vw (volkswagon).. please help im really nt sure where to start..tried putting in a diffrent set of plugs but no help..what do i try next

Weird. Sounds like tps. I think I say that to every problem though. It's easy to check the voltage on your tps sensor. You just need to whip up a testing tool(easy and straight forward), and plug it in to the sensor. Then you will have this tool in your kit for the future. Takes 30 seconds to check once you have the tool made. At least you can start ruling things out. My tps went bad on me on the trail. Does your reverse engage like it's suppose to?

Also check your plugs. Do they looked washed? Like coolant washed? Pull your y pipe, look for any signs of coolant coming from cylinders. Milky, or really wet looking. This could make it pop and crackle, and run on one cyliner, kinda like vw vanagon.

first the reverse engages but it took 3 times when i first started the sled to go reverse as it kept staling..
second even though i understand the basic 2 stroke engine since i come from a moto-cross background this is my first year with sleds so i dont know where the tps is or what to do to check if it functional so please explain like i am a child :) thanx

should i try starting the sled with the pipe/muffler disconected incase there is a blockage somewhere ?
no,no it's not good to do that, you can take it off and inspect it maybe wrap a rag around a air hose then blow thru it and see if it's clear. Are you trhottle bodies attached well? Maybe do a complete inspection, check the bolt on the bottom side of the "y" as well too. Check all you wiring maybe something fell against yer pipe when hood was closed?
coils/wires check all plug you can reach.

McMark, I would start with the quick and easy things first. Diagnosis.Pull your exhaust pipe off and have a look in the y pipe. Do both sides look the same? No coolant or milky stuff out of either side? K, next or even before you check your y pipe have you pulled your spark plugs off? What do they look like? In doing these couple of inspections, you can get an idea what your motor is doing inside. Certain things can tell tales for sure. You really have to search on the forum and see what other guys are doing, because I'm sure that someone else has just experienced this same problem. Tps is your throttle position sensor. Located on the left side of your throttle bodies. It's job is tell the computer where the throttle plates are located, while running and adjust fuel demand as needed. If this setting is off, or if your throttle bodies are not synced together, your sled will do some weird stuff. Loads of helpful info on this site to tell you how to check it, build a tool for setting and adjusting it etc. These machines are plagued with flaws from polaris engineers, that we need to rectify. Good luck man.

no milky substance and no loose or burnt wires after pulling pipe off and looking inside

If it blinks 5 times i'm pretty sure it's your egt sensor, (exhaust gas temperature sensor) So check your wires, I've read some guys have had these melt together. Make sure to read all the stickies at the top of the main page, the information you get from these boys on here is better than any dealership. I've gone from being just a rider to a full blown mechanic on my machine, just from the info on this site. Good luck and keep us posted.

I second that!

Definitely sounds like a tps or tps harness problem, I had the same thing happen to my 05 900 and it was the harness. Don't remember the part # but the harness repair kit was around $45 from polaris.

cant find the parts babbits says no results alon g with others ? stop making it or something ? i will get one and give it a try if i can get a link and instructions for fix..thanx again all :)

you did something wrong then..i just tried it and it worked fine..$29.39

use the box on the right side of the screen, select polaris, then enter the 2203165 in the middle box, leave bottom box empty...click search..
