Need HELP 2005 900

Ok where to start, This sled will start 1st or second pull every time idle up to normal and run 5 sec then rpm starts to slow down and it will quit if you give it throttle it will backfire or bog but if you feather it you can get the RPMs up but sometimes will backfire then as well. After it quits it will start right back up. Don't know a lot of history of this sled as I bought it last year and put 75 miles on it and this started. After playing with it had it running good for 20 miles and the rod let go. So for what I have changed or tried, complete new motor from last year, changed from another running sled the TPS, coils. Tested stator and capacitor. It does have the SLP kit on it and I don't know for sure it has been flashed but I don't think that should affect the idling of the sled and it did run well last year when it was run right. Anyone have an Idea or has had a similar problem. One last thing does anyone know what the digital wrench really tells a tech? I asked a buddy of mine that is a Polaris tech and he says it does not tell them much that I cant check with a ohm meter and didn't think it would be worth taking in to get check I almost think he just doesn't want to work on a 900 fusion.
Sorry for such a long post PLEASE help if you think you can.

sounds to me like possible fuel pressure issue, get a fuel pressure gauge and screw it on to the test port by the fuel filter, pressure should be 58 psi when running you can also use a battery to prime the pump and test pressure check the sticky links at the top of the forum it is posted in many places how to prime the pump.

here is a link to down load a copy of the shop manual it might help a lot.

05 shop manul

Ya I did try that last year and it was ok, I have not tried is since I replaced the engine this year so it would not hurt to check again. Thanks for the manual you sent it to me already and that is how I tested the stator.

Check your throttle cable and throttle safety switches, use the adjustment by the handlebars to make sure it is tight enough, Throttle safety switches will some times give you this problem

Thanks guys for the replys but have done all that. Set tps and even tryed a different one off another running sled. has new reeds installed. set throttle free play and even tryed with safety switches disconected.
Has anyone seen bad ECU's that is the only thing I can't test I am going to try swiching one out next week if I can get my hands on one to use.

One switch is for idle and the other is for above idle at the pivot. can you ck spark after it dies?

It has spark when it dies, and fuel pressure. I have now changed Ecu, Capacitor, exhaust temp sender, and short wire harness from Ecu to injectors and is still the same.

Have you checked all the wiring for shorts and the grounds to make sure they have good connections?

im not sure if you said you put a completely new motor in or not... but if you changed the injectors at all... in the manual it says you have to match the injectors to the ECU. there is like 4 different colours from what i gather

Thaught I had a broken tps wire so I put on the tps harness kit and there is no longer a bog at low speed but now a new problem it will backfire "little pop pop pop" through pipe at 6500 and above rpm when running on a track stand. Now snow yet so can't run on the ground. who has an idea on the cause of this?

exhaust valve bellows....check for ANY holes or small cuts..

replace bellows and plug the valves right off the housing ;)

post back

I will check them but it is not a bog or low rpm I can now get peak rpm but it is poping throu the exhaust. Worth a shot cheaper than my next guess of sending stator to RM Stator

yeh stator can do a popping as well...its well worth having RM stator rebuild yours anyways...i have been curious about having them to mine for a while too, suppose to get excellent work..

if you do have them rebuild it, let us see some before after pics, and the price it cost.

Spark Plug Boots

How old are the plug boots ?

Mine all the sudden quit me on the hill last year. Had one bad boot.

Ran great right up until then. Back fired rough idle ran erractily

I'm just going to throw this out there because I have had a lot of carbureted sleds do the same thing but I am not sure how fuel injection would act.

One of the most common problems that happened on the older sleds was they would get water in the gas. They would run the same way you are saying and you could feather the throttle and get them to rev up and run in your shop, but as soon as you took them to the hill where the temps were colder they would run like chit.

If the tank was left empty over the summer you could have got condensation inside the tank. If you haven't already done it drain the tank completely then you can pour some of the gas into a glass container and let it sit for a bit. If there is a ton of water you would see it right away, if just a little in there it will separate from the gas after a few minutes.

I was thinking gas as well, I have mixed fuel in there now because of it being a rebuilt engine but I am going to drain and try fresh fuel again with out oil added.
