btw opus, please post what your using again. probably have used it before but have been a kaspersky dealer since 07 with better results than any other software.
Boys................ I'll let you in on a secret. Norton sucks a$$. As many of you know it slows machines down to a crawl and causes more troubles than if fixes-enough said. I have been doing this for a long time (look at my name) and was a fan of norton until about 4 years ago when they made their program resource hungry. Just stay away from any Norton product!!!
I recommend AVG free or just plain AVG antivirus to all my customers. You don't need the security suite crap.
Just a little fyi I don't run any antivirus or antispyware software on any of my systems. If you know what is safe and not safe it's pretty simple............. anything that is free and fun will more than likely have bad things with it. I haven't had a virus or spyware on any of my systems for over 10 years.

Ive never ran a/v on any personal systems.up until the snowest virus I never had any issues.was able to clean that one up so it wasn't too big of a deal.norton is a memory hog but the new software does a better job than the previous versions.

Too bad you already took it into the repair place. I could've showed you how to disable and remove it pretty easily. Just did it the other day on a friend's machine.

It is actually. Especially for those that just got their machine out of the shop, after paying a couple hundred bucks.
PCDOC, you are right, you can run without anything. Biggest thing is to dump IE right out of the gate. Virus issues are pretty minimal anymore. Malware is the biggest thing now. It is impossible to be 100% protected now, due to the changes that are being made in the spyware created. Even with anti spyware programs, some of them are actually spyware themselves.
Superantispyware is good, not perfect. Its a hard game now.

It brought a number of items to my attention I have to address. Issues I picked up while downloading a service manual some months ago. More also that I missed cleaning up when I got hit by clicking a link for a Yamaha Virago starter update kit.
When I get a little more time today I will read through the whole log file. Looking over them quick, I did recognize some temp files that I have not been able to get to go away. Didn't find any bad files in my recovery drive like there were before.
