Near miss in Kakwa this weekend.

Who was the lucky fella who got to go down and do the rigging? (I'm guessing you got the lightest guy you know....promised him a few beers...LOL)

Unbelievable pictures Tyler.

I couldn't believe it when he answered it was him that fell in when I asked who it was that fell in back at camp that day. He is lucky to be alive and luckier not to be hurt, at all!!

These pictures are crazy, I hate riding glaciers just becasue of something like this happening, glad to see everyone is okay.

Had a similar event take place on the Pemberton Ice Cap several years ago. 95 feet down and the guy wasn't injured. He landed on a shelf at 95 feet with the sled wedged above him. That was not the bottom. It was way deeper. Sled is still down there. A large group of people formed a rescue party to go get the sled a week later. Most had not been there for the original event. There was a unanimous decision within 5 minutes of getting to the site that it was not worth the risk and the rescue was abandoned.

This is the reason I try to stay off the glaciers as much as possible. Some of the oldtimers up here were telling me there are still unrecovered bodies and sleds that fell in glaciers (years ago, I think one was on a Polaris XLT) up near Summit Lake past the Arctic Man starting area. My uncle was saying that family or friends would go put flowers on the glacier in memory of the lost loved ones. Pretty freaky if you ask me.

Glad to hear it all worked out in the end, except for maybe the sled. Can't wait to see the footage on the next BLack Sprocket vid.

On a seperate note, did anyone lose a digital camera on the Kakwa Trail between Deadhorse Meadows and the parking lot? If so, id it and its yours. Found in the morning of Saturday, March 7 on the way in. I can be reached beter via email at steveandlindsay@telus.net
