ya thanks for sending me to the top of it Ty, is your insurance going to cover me on this one? hahaha jk. Well i wasn't exactly on solid ground down there but from what i can gather, the crust that covered the crack was about 8" thick so that filled in the very bottom and is partially what i landed in. I remember falling fast, there was no resistance because its straight down and smooth ice on either side. When i hit the bottom i was wedged sideways and more snow fell on top of me. I could not move, breath or see. I started to panic and fight like crazy to get free but i felt close to passing out due to lack of air. I had to force myself to calm down, stop fighting and regulate my breathing (slow small breaths) then fight more to get free. I was probably only trapped for 5min but it felt longer. Once i got my feet under me and looked up it was quite a shock, it all happened so fast i really didnt have time to get scared and standing at the bottom was pretty surreal and almost to much to comprehend. I think it will sink in alittle more when we go back this weekend to recover the sled. We have video from below and above when they rescued me, i think once i piece it together it should be a fairly intense sequence. The first guy on scene almost fell in as well, he stepped in a smaller part of the crack and was able to catch himself, he was basically up to his waist (very lucky). I was video taping at the time, i couldnt see him but it sounded like he was falling too. Anyways it will all be in the next Black Sprockett video due out next fall, I like to self promote but this incident was a bit much. Im a very calculated guy and mentally prepared for a lot of things but I really didnt see this one comming. It wasn't bad luck that put me down there, but rather good luck that brought me out safe. I shouldn't have been riding on a glacier without really knowing the risks, plain and simple. I hope others can learn from this, thanks for the support.
