Near miss in Kakwa this weekend.

Sled went down with him also. It got wedged upside down 15ft above him so it is down around 70ft. Tunnel boards and bars looked bent from what he saw on the way up.

When he stopped his feet where on solid ground. He could walk back and forth 10-20ft once he got free.

ya thanks for sending me to the top of it Ty, is your insurance going to cover me on this one? hahaha jk. Well i wasn't exactly on solid ground down there but from what i can gather, the crust that covered the crack was about 8" thick so that filled in the very bottom and is partially what i landed in. I remember falling fast, there was no resistance because its straight down and smooth ice on either side. When i hit the bottom i was wedged sideways and more snow fell on top of me. I could not move, breath or see. I started to panic and fight like crazy to get free but i felt close to passing out due to lack of air. I had to force myself to calm down, stop fighting and regulate my breathing (slow small breaths) then fight more to get free. I was probably only trapped for 5min but it felt longer. Once i got my feet under me and looked up it was quite a shock, it all happened so fast i really didnt have time to get scared and standing at the bottom was pretty surreal and almost to much to comprehend. I think it will sink in alittle more when we go back this weekend to recover the sled. We have video from below and above when they rescued me, i think once i piece it together it should be a fairly intense sequence. The first guy on scene almost fell in as well, he stepped in a smaller part of the crack and was able to catch himself, he was basically up to his waist (very lucky). I was video taping at the time, i couldnt see him but it sounded like he was falling too. Anyways it will all be in the next Black Sprockett video due out next fall, I like to self promote but this incident was a bit much. Im a very calculated guy and mentally prepared for a lot of things but I really didnt see this one comming. It wasn't bad luck that put me down there, but rather good luck that brought me out safe. I shouldn't have been riding on a glacier without really knowing the risks, plain and simple. I hope others can learn from this, thanks for the support.

Dug through my Pictures of Sir A and found one of the cravas that seems to open when people ride over it. It is the same spot Poorider's talking about but a different year. It seems to be getting worse every year and I haven't been there in 3 years. I was wondering if this is the area? It is just past the rock carin's on the hill decending to the ice field.

Glad you made it out, heck of a story.

Would be funny if you left that sucker down there and some dude found your sled 10,000 years from now... and it started on the 2nd pull.

with talking to a few kakwa old timers there is more than a few crevass in the sir alexander area, and also the little ones are getting bigger.ride with care in this area, you are a long ways from help carry some safety supplys.

Man, the pics are wicked! I cant believe he didnt get hurt! Its amazing! If you didnt see it, you wouldnt believe it.Im pretty sure I would have touched cloth in my ginch on the way down. Wow.

All turned out good in the end. Thank goodness. Mind you, it was just a Rev, no big loss... lol! Just kidding.. juuuust kidding.

Here are some pics. Black Sprockett has some from the bottom looking up that I have not seen yet.

Look closely at the "sled in crack" pic. You can see the sled, it is covered in snow.

We have now named this, Kory's Crack.

WOW. I get an erie feeling just looking at those pictures. I can't imagine what it was like falling down that or what it felt like from the bottom looking up. Glad to see no one was hurt.

Awesome pics. Come on Kory put your pics up I gotta see from the bottom up. You are one lucky mofo!

WOW amazing pictures but it looks to me that your a little off the trail to get up the back side of Sir A. You wouldn't catch me dead riding over that Glacier, The whole hillside is split open on that one. Good to Hear he made it out safe and got his sled back.
