Near miss in Kakwa this weekend.

We were back in Alexander this Saturday on the Hudoo (SP?) glacier and had a little scare. A friend was driving across the top and found a crevass that was blown over with snow and fell in. We had a 50ft and a 40ft piece of rope. We had five feet extra at the top, so he was down 85ft. Three of us pulled him up with him sitting on his shovel handle. He luckly was not hurt, must not of been his day.

Wow, that is a rediculously lucky story. I'm glad everything turned out alright.

wow  lucky indeed good thing you had the rope

Where abouts on the glacier was it? Was thinkin about tryin to get in there this weekend but may avoid it now...

It was at the top of the glacier. He drove around and was looking at it from the top. He must of srubbed enough speed on the way down as he was pinched tight at the bottom. He couldn't hardly move until he got his pack off.

Was that the Crevasse as you came onto the glacier from the east through the rocks? or was it the one you sled in the middle of on your way up to the peak of alexander?.

I seen both Feb. 16 and neither one looked very good.

Once again, glad to here you guys are O.K.

t rex are you saying the crevass just got narrower and he wedged in at the bottom or did he go to the bottom and land on snow. where did the sled end up

that's freakin scary, I almost fell into one in pretty much the exact same spot about 6-7 years ago. I was following behind another rider from g.p....bob z. you might know him. he drove across and knocked the snow loose behind him, opening up about a 6 foot wide hole in front of me. Luckily I saw the snow let go and got her reigned up before falling in. I have a 35 mm pic around here somewhere of bob's t-cat tracks on either side of the hole. As close as I wanted to get to the edge it appeared frickin straight down and deep.
