Near Cameron Pass

Hmmm....I think I would have had to fight that one all the way up. If they can't write down the correct info, who's to say they were correct in where you parked? Some of those rangers are small men with medium sized badges.......

I got a ticket there the same day... (i'm the buddy). On my ticket they wrote down all the wrong information. Wrong VIN, Wrong Plate, Wrong Make of Vehicle, Wrong everything.. I called and called and called to complain.. and office Carl Nilson of the State Parks service was a complete dick. I also called his supervisors over and over and they will not return my calls. I just paid the ticket..

Officer Carl Nilson even threatened me when I told him that I would need to speak to his supervisor.. he said that if I just pay the ticket now he wouldn't hold us to the 10 day payment time. Which makes the ticket upwards of $50...(Even though he wrote us wrong tickets and went on vacation for 10 days)
And if I disputed the ticket he said he would send it directly to court in Walden so we would have to speak to a judge.

THIS IS YOUR TAX MONEY HARD AT WORK PEOPLE!

Again, I've called his supervisor in Lakewood 20 plus times and no one will call me back. I just sucked it up and paid the 25$

I wouldn't give it up yet. Keep at it, get to the bottom of it, document your calls, and attempts to make it right. Paying it actually helps your case, as it brings forth the fact you are not a habitual offender. These people serve the public, make them provide the service they are sworn to. Never accept a "no" from someone that doesn't have the authority to say "yes"....Keep climbing the ladder, someone will get the point.

Forget the names but one of the guys there sleds some too and he's pretty cool. He's a big sum*****. The other is a squeamy scrawny lil ginger prick you just want to snap in two. He gave me a rash of chit about something that was way over his station and i kept at him til he finally STFU and let me through. A lot of cop types need to learn where there job ends and where the court of law begins. I respect the badge, and woudn't want that job for anything but the man wearing it needs to earn respect too. When they start lecturing and acting like my daddy, I tell them when they start wearing a robe and banging a gavel they can lecture me. Give me my ticket and STFU!

Yep, might as well go to Wolf Creek or anywhere else down south. tee hee. Nice pics punk! That's spot that drops into RMNP on the west always makes me want to go guerilla sledder.

Thats right, and it is so tempting to drop in that one bowl below Mt. Richthofen. Frankly unless they caught you red handed I don't know how it would cause a problem unless they saw the tracks and decided to close the area to sleds all together. Not good!

Actually this spot is relatively small and gets old quick, it just has some bad azz scenery to make it a great place to ride. It would be a stretch to make a whole day out of it without moving to Long Draw or LRR later on

Here's a few more pics of the same thing with tracks. Well no tracks in the park, but that upper bowl between the crags has some great climbing and pretty safe.

Yep! I've see the top of that last climb.....not something you want to shoot over, that's for sure!! Nothing there but trouble....... :D

My crew refers to this area as American Lakes.....is there a different name?

Is it legal to park in that lot right by long draw road and sled from there, or do you have to park down by the Chambers lake entrance?

Bushmaster, those pics from last year? Wish it looked that good up there right now...

Butta, I've heard you can stop on top of that sak shrivler, but you want to be ready to stop fast! lol. Same thing i've heard it called - AML or Michigan lakes.

CO 2.0, I usually park along side of longdraw if it's plowed enough and have a smaller rig that will fit without taking up all the space. I've parked in Blue Lake lot across the road too, but it's been a couple years since I rode long-draw so who knows what kind of deal they got going now. The problem is that parking lot is so tiny and it's hard to find a spot for a rig on the weekend. Those pics were from 05-06. I didn't ride AML til May last year and not much then. I'm up for riding there during the week most anytime. When my sled is running that is. Hope to be back up soon.

I park at the long draw road lot about ten times a year. No tickets. Even came back after riding all day and found two ranger trucks parked right next to me. I even borrowed a shovel from one of their trucks to prop up my tilt trailer! Don't worry, I put it back;)

Hey Bushmaster,

what trail do you take to get into that area of the pics? Or do you have a map?

Thanks

Rev.., check out the map I linked a little farther down in this post. American Lakes is on the right, down towards the bottom of the map. You can park in a small lot just to the left past where Bochman hits the hwy on the right (CSF fee lot), or, you can park south of Gould (dead end, no fee) and take 7 Utes trail over. The trail to AL goes up the valley to the south of the hwy, then cuts south - up the hill to AL. The whole basin is open, including the step up to the west. The ridge on the south of AL is RMNP boundary. The climb on the right of the first lake is a knife edge, so don't go over the top, ~1500 ft straight down the other side.

What he said :) There's also a small pulloff on the left a few miles down from the top. More of a skier lot, but if there's room... Rocks abound til later in the season, but the sheltered slopes and chutes are rideable. Yep, definitely don't want to go over top of anything there. lol I was down in Gould tuning the new top end today. Pretty thin down at 9000', maybe 3 feet, but the trail was in good shape. Light snow all day and maybe 8" up top and 4 down low.

Took my brother up today and tried to get him a few runs on his snowboard but it was socked in up there and wind was howlin. I took him up a couple times then we tried to get to the top but it was so hard to see the terrain that twice I was going up what I thought to be a gentle hill on the way to the next ridge and "whoops" that was a steep draw that was to steep an deep....stuck. Got out and headed on and again out of nowhere I'm side hilling this ridge and gonna make a switchback to crest it an a darned cornice came out of nowhere.......stuck. Long story short, we made a wise decision and headed down around 1....exhausted but had a little fun despite the poor visibility.

From what I could see the wind did a number on the place clearing off the knobs completely and filling in the draws

so whats the deal now on parking up there along 14? we rode up that way all lats year and didnt have a problem with parking? you have to have a pass even at the pulloffs now? what about long draw parking area?

thanks !

pulloffs are fine. they ticket you when you cross their sign in the parking lots. My ticket was in 7 utes... it's nice to know that the Jackson County Services don't plow that lot in the winter yet can still ticket people. F-ing bastards
