N. Fairfield (Wells Summit) Report 1-12-2013

Made it up to our favorite local riding spot again. Snow has finally improved to the ride able amount. Granted a few of us found rocks and stumps burried, but for the most part everything was covered. Trails are groomed and actually were quite nice. Crowds were small, considering it was a Saturday. We saw lots of trailers in Fairfield, so I think they all went over to Salt Creek. Weather has been cold. I would bring an extra set of mid layers and and extra pair of gloves. Snow was almost perfect, but bottomless. Every run we did up the hill and every side hill we left sage brush exposed, but you didn't feel it in the track or skis. If wonder far enough back or far enough up, find snow that has not been ridden on, it is wonderful. Reminded me of Island Park last year, flowing over hood and packing up the foot wells. Snow was light and fluffy, no bottom unless you find someone else old track. Everything wasn't tracked up as much as we expected. Rocks were exposed just on the summits of the higher peaks, otherwise not an issue. Parking lot was cleared and plenty of room We would all go up again, it seems finally ready up there.

Thanks to who ever brought up the splitting maul for the warming hut.
