My review of the 08 700 Dragon

Agree with some, disagree in others but reading between the lines on most peoples thoughts with rationalizing the 7 versus the 8 or even more. Everyone seems happy on the 7 but can't get it through their heads that it's enough, it's fun, and the package is what everyone has been looking for.

I have a 07 Dragon 700 RMK that I have just pounded on relentlessly for 2,500 miles and it is still in good shape. The running boards are bent quite a bit from stomping on them during hard landings but other wise it is solid. Honestly, if it was an XP I would have broken it in half by now. As far as 600 vs. 700 vs. 800 goes most of that debate is ego driven. The 600 144 is a very sweet machine, my son has one in it turned him into a motivated mountain rider. Now I have some one to ride with that can almost keep up.

Pro’s, tough
Con’s computerized

I call my sled HAL as in “I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." Or “Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over." Or even, "I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen."

Found another con. :( When she is upside down, the chaincase oil leaks out. Not that cool. And getting to the filler hole? Oh man! lol

It took 15 rides on her for her to finally picked a name, Naomi. Because she is a fit throwin' b!tch when she's been upside down to long, took a good 30 pulls to get her started.

Did your 7 loose much oil from the injector resivoir? Tura lost her 900 on a hill and it sat upside down until I could get turned around and back up the hill to her/it. Lost 3/4 of the oil through the vent holes on the cap.

Thanks for the good honest review.
I've ridden a Pol for the last 7 yrs, same sled, not too many miles (3000 only due to living in the freakin' desert most of the time) and couldn't be happier w/ the sled. Probably keeping it because I still like it even though it's outdated.
Wanted to get a D8 this spring since I live in snow country again couldn't justify the cost of a stock 8 hundo (used) being $500-1500 more than the clean low mi ($2400 in extra parts to boot) M1000 I bought. Have had good luck w/ K's M7, so until Polaris supply catches up w/ the demand.....Go Cat!:D

PROS-

One thing I’m hearing is that the Dragons are quite a bit more expensive (hp for $$) than say the M1000. I’ll use that sled because it is the biggest stock displacement on the market and who doesn’t want the biggest cc they can afford eh? So, it’s hard to get past that bang for the buck (HP/$$) kind of thing. But I looked at my budget, my riding, my dealer and what I wanted to end up with for my money.

CG:

How many miles did you get out of the belt and what vents did you go with? Hell of a job on your review. Yup, it's a nice scooter.

About 800. I'm happy with that.... And I'm running the 080, the one that many are being told they can't do.... Getting shift out, no slippage, deflection is good... seems to be working fine!

I went with the 2cool vents. Installing today. :)

Heck, I don't know! I know there was oil EVERYwhere when we righted her. Assumed it was chaincase oil since it has a vent on top of it and the oil was all in that area. Luckily we had some good ole' 4stroke oil with us and used that for the chaincase............ But maybe it was from elsewhere? Hmmmmm

I cant wait for you to ride a boosted dragon! Hopefully you get to try a pump gas one, i think for you that would be the ticket! Horsepower at elevation running on 91 octane! wahoo!

Me to Phatty..... just been to freaking busy (riding :D)to get with the one local guy that has a turbo! Isn't that sad.... (both on the to busy and the ONE turbo'd D around here....) I really don't want to wait until next year to just try one and then have to deal with installation after the snow is on the ground, I don't have the patience for that.

I was hoping BD would bring one of their demo rides to WA. Oh well.
