My pull string went bye bye!!

I thought everyone knew about the second knot deal, we been doing it since the 70's

If that was an older polaris you could kiss your water pump belt goodbye...and not know it til it's too late.

If I'm on the mountain and my pull rope gets sucked in.... i'll start it using the loose end of a tow strap wrapping it around the primary. Sucks to start that way, but it will get the job done.

Safer to use the rope and white piece of plastic in the tool kit, it attaches to the primary clutch and the rope wraps around the clutch about 3 times. I wonder how many people don't know how to use it??
really saves your arse when your way back and the rope disappears...:eek:

I also tie another knot behind the handle, works great, but I have had it happen before I got around to tying the back up knot.

if you don't have it use the strap out of your backpack, works in a pinch

Shooooooot, you guys can't start your sled by hand spinning your primary??? :eek:

That's always fun to watch! :beer;

Try that chit when it's a 670 rotax that is flooded.... Talk about a b!tch:eek:

good to see ski-doo has improved on their pull starts......happened to my old 670 3 times in a year.....recoil broke twice, rope once.

coopchute = penis head

We were in a massive avalanch a few years back At Priest Lake. The only 3 guys that didn't get burried had electric start on their Revs. The others were jacking off fumbling for the pull handle. I have had electic start ever since then. Reminds me when everyone used to rip on sleds with reverse.

put good rope in AND i found that by taking some really thing gauge solid wire, like MIG .035 wire and wrapping it around the knot, and coiling it until it locks down seems to add a tiny bit of protection, just adds some extra strength to the knot, the 1000 is already a PITA to pull over with a normal started, i cant imagine doing the primary trick.

Anyone that thinks you can't start a sled by spinning the primary is a total FOOL!!!!!!!!!!! And a bigger fool if you dont' believe you can go it on big engines.

I spent a day on the mountain that and amazed everyone every time I did it.

I broke a pull rope on my 1155 twin WAY back in Steep Creek...up HooDoo in Montana. I was 5 miles of up and down backcountry from the road and 15 miles from the truck.

On the Polaris GenII water pump assembly, when the rope breaks you HAVE to have a 10mm socket with about a 4" extension. I only had a 10mm wrench. No deal. Not getting fixed.

The big thing that happens is that when the pull rope breaks, it kicks the water pump belt off the gear. Without that pump belt, you overheat in about 30 seconds.

Sooooo...I'd wrap the clutch with my leather belt and give her a spin. I had a kid burp the throttle...hop on when it started and run the sled cross country for 30 seconds or as far as I could until the water temps got too hot. Shut her down when she got warm. Pack the cyls, carbs and case with snow...and wait for it to cool down to about 100°. Wash, rinse and repeat.

It took 4 hours to go that 5 miles to the road. I was with two guys whose sleds couldn't pull me. A 580 mtn cat and a Pol700. And the riders weren't savy enough to give me a tug until we got to the road.

I bet I started 1155 twin by spinning the clutch 15 times that day. Easily 15 times. That was a long day.

I think she is referring to starting it by spinning the clutch without any rope, just grabbing a hold and giving her he!! ....that would be fun to watch.:clock:

Exactly. Watching Keith do that on my 1150 was hella cool! And Lynch start his 1050 one handed that way..... gave me the giggles! lol

So, Beels, tell the story. Or better yet, is there video? ;)

back in my old ultra days, you could start it all day just by spinning the clutch with your hand. it had to be warmed up though.

Also, put a knot on the other side of the pull handle... so if the handle breaks or the end-side knot fails, the inside knot will keep the rope from gettin sucked in.

I actualy did this on a friends sled 25 miles from anywhere, i carry a length of water toy tow rope, 4,000. Lb capacity
