my new 2006 switchback 900 w/ 1067mi, bought this in the spring from a buddy who bought it as a new leftover 2 yrs ago! im super pumped to rip on this baby this winter. been staring at it alll summer long, started tinkering with it in the last few weeks! we dont get tons of snow here in ne ohio, im mainly hoping this long track will give my big *** a better ride! as im coming off of a 96 xcr 600!

work done so far:
epi clutch kit
still cleaning belt dust off of the engine and under hood (last owner thought this sled was for putt putt rides)
added slp shock tower vents
fat boy frenchies throttle cable
cleaned clutches, being sent out for a good balancing
sent templates to fab shop for new rear bumper can't wait for those to come back!

air box delete- personally fabbed new belt guard & adapter plate for air intake plenum, new intake is mocked up w/ pvc pipe! ordering all new 2.5" aluminum fittings and a k&n with sno-charger very soon!

still to come... slp torque stop and push arm, exhaust can, dash vents, and 2" bar riser

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to club 900!
I have the same sled, well... it started as a Switchback but I converted it for the mountains. Looks like your off to a good start with your mods.
There's a core group of awesome guys in here with all the info you will ever need.

congrats man..welcome to the ELITE 900 club. lol.

enjoy that baby...

make sure you continue to go through it and inspect/clean/update the common issue parts and it will be a fun sled...you came to the right place!! ;)

Nice to see you keeping the 9 alive! Hope you all the best and look forward to seeing you "on the dark side" here.

well i got the 900 all torn apart, whats the deal with putting delrin washers behind the spring cup in the secondary clutch, and where do i get them, i didnt see'em on the polaris parts fiche!?!?

This simple washer is placed between the moveable sheave and the spring cup on the clutch. It provides a super slick surface to help eliminate spring binding as the clutch goes through its range of motion. Eliminating this binding maximizes the consistency of the Rapid Reaction™ Driven Clutch.

i use at least 2 of these on my clutches...some use 3...but only one is not much help

you can get them from your dealer? they are cheap...

thanks guido thats exactly what i needed to know!

i installed my FBF throttle cable today, and am having trouble getting the oil pump cable set properly. when the throttle is let back to IDLE the indexing lines on the oiil pump dont line up. but they are off to where its over oiling not under oiling!

but i forgot to pay attention when i took the oem cable off.... is the throttle flipper supposed to return all the way back against the throttle/kill switch housing, and push the micro switch in?? because if i take enough slack out of the cable via the inline adjuster to where the flipper pushes the micro switch in, then my index lines on the oil pump will line up! hmmmm

sooo i did the front radiator delete this evening! and now theres a big hole in the belly pan where used to exit the front rad! has anybody had problems with snow sucking in throught this big gap? or are you guys using something to block off the hole left behind by the rad?!

i have a block off plate you can have...its a perfect fit replacement peiece of aluminum...

send me a few $$ for shipping (paypal) if you dont mind

Hi and welcome to the forum. Ask if you have any questions. Also, nice looking sled:face-icon-small-hap

thanks guys!

well tonight i disassembled the primary for a good cleaning, and boy did it ever need it! the inside of the sheave faces were literally, completely black with belt residue.

and the belt to sheave clearence on this sled was way too far out, so i pulled the cover off, then the spring, then the spider lock nut, then the spider came off, next was a thin shim and a 1/8" thick spacer then followed by the moveable sheave. is that spacer a necessary component?, because if i could remove it and relace it with some shims i would be able to move my spider in towards the sheave thus allowing me to tighten up and properly set my belt to sheave clearence?!?!

anybody have thoghts or insight on this matter! :light:

i take the spacer out and replace with shims or you can't get the adjustment you need unless you have the spacer or spider machined.

biggdawg im not discounting you advice, hell you told me exactly what i wanted to hear. but has anyone else removed this spacer and replaced it with shims? the way that spacer is machined makes me hesitant to run the clutch without it!

From what I've been told it's not recommended to NOT have a spacer (probably for torque specs) They usually come from the factory with bad shim jobs , usually to much. Try it with the thin shim and just hand put the clutch together it should give you an idea, 10 thousandths would be nice, odds are you'll end up with 20 thousandths. It'll snug up some more after torqueing. Spider is 200ftpds and jam nut is 225 ftpds I do believe?

hey im back!
today i was inspecting my headlight assembly in preperation for a HID conversion. and i saw what looks like a spot for a third headlight in between the 2 existing lights, what is that dome in the center of the headlight assem. with the big rubber plug behind it!?? its shown on the parts fiche but theres no description for it!

Polaris offers a projector beam headlamp to put in that spot as an accessory. They are quite expensive for what you get in my opinion.
