Dump crap loads of money into our electrical infrastructure, electrical generation, transmission, distribution, metering.. all that crap.

I want to see electric vehicles go up to 50% of our transportation fuel. I want to see the money that we export for fuel prices be put back into our own economy, not overseas.

We export tons of our wealth for oil imports. What if instead of paying other countries, we pay ourselves, our own utilities? Think of all the money that would keep going in our economy (instead of exiting as an export). Think of all the money that would therefore be taxed...

Yah, I am biased as I work in the field, but I would rather pay Americans to get to work, then 40% of it going to other countries... I spend a lot of money on fuel, about $500 a month. Keeping an extra 200 bucks in the economy a month from one person for ever.. seems like a lot of money to me!!

What are your thoughts?

Which of course are great reasons you should not have supported and voted for OB. Swampy

where are you getting crap loads of infrastructure $$ we are broke remember ?That type of spending is why we are broke and still have a crappy infrastructure. its always been a hot bed for corruption ,mismanagement,ETC.

I hate electric cars. They will never be practical for some of us.

I like the idea of keeping our money in our country . Who wouldn't except that guy YOU voted for !!:boxing:

The greenies will never allow us to generate enough power to make this practical and we need a bunch if we were to cut off the oil.

Coal gen. HAHAHA No Way !
NUKE= can you say heckishima! Never happen! (HAHA stupid filter changes f ukishima to heckishima)

Solar Not good enough By a long shot ( where we should invest Chitloads of $$ here before anything else IMO it is the largest energy source in the solar sytem and chances are our best bet . )

I think if we stopped wasting billions on wind farms and other totaly idiotic crap like that and put it into things that actaully have potential we may get somewhere.

maybe if we cut everything else we could afford it. Though, if it leads to more money staying in the USA, that will mean more tax revenue.. spend some money, increase your tax revenues.... I think it has the potential to pay off big.

You are right about the corruption and mismanagement though, which is why the best method would be to tax the crap out of fuel imports, and let the markets do the work on finding a solution. [/QUOTE]

Correct, but they will be for many many many people. Even if it is only 30% of the US population, wouldn't that be enough gas savings to limit a lot of our oil imports?

One of his positions was investing into the electrical infrastructure and reducing oil imports. It still is, I believe.

I don't think cutting the oil off, just cutting off oil imports!

Once people realize that coal can be cleaner then gasoline, people might change their minds.

Solar and wind are getting there. Heard that solar panels are getting up to 22% efficient, and wind turbines are getting up to 5 MW in size, with testing going up to 10 MW in size.

These technologies are still in their infancy. If the money keeps being invested in new technologies, they will become much more viable in the future. Especially new technologies in energy storage, and investments in more transmission infrastructure.

It is an interesting world these days... but I am getting tired of giving a lot of my money to foreign countries..

solar and wind is coming of age for certain...up here in this area it is easily 25 grand for hydro lines to get to rural lots...a 5000 kw wind generater at 18 mph hr wind speed and 66 decible at 15 ft mount with 25 year bearing life is 30 grand..and i have seen solar hot water tanks/storage operate 100 percent in the summer for a family of four for 5200 dollars..government should be having incentives for these technologies that are proven

Agreed, solar hot water heating seems to be forgotten in this mix. China has tons of solar hot water heaters, but it seems there is little of them here. Like you stated, they are cheap and they work great! Seems like a win win to me!

I certainly have nothing against renewable energy, especially solar, however If it is cheap and efficient don't you think entrepenaurs would be falling all over themselves bringing their products to market. The free market is like the tide, all boats rise and fall with the tide. I know a few people who are using solar and and have been for many years, they love it but weren't real happy with the original costs. Just keep them damnable windmills away from me. Swampy

Swampy, What do you have against wind? I think a problem with the energy market, or rather most markets is the lack in quantifying and monetizing the environmental impact on the choices that are offered in the market.

The eyesores on the Quilomene maybe. they seem to be the only thing NIMBYs can't stop

Better put some of that money you speak of in PIPELINE infrastructure or see many more failures and dead people.
Now all we have to do is print more money. Hmmm, what is the normal response to that?

No doubt to get ourselves into a better position from an energy independent perspective is going to hurt...

wind has SOME potential as soon as they completely redesign the windmills . The curret over hung degign and enormous blades will never be feesible. They are and will be to logistically difficult and expensive to maintain and over hung gen sets like that will need it ! Your an engineer you have to agree with that.

I think taking advantage of topographical featureas and such is the way to go. Much like a hydro plant uses water and turbines . I think there is alot more potential in both design and efficency . I envision taking adavantage of wind currents at valley openings and such funneling the wind energy vastly increasing efficency. Maintainance and overall longevity of a dual pedastal gen set vs the curret overhung deign is a no brainer.

I really doubt anyone would miss the ugly *** loud wind turbines on the skyline !

I think about 40% efficiency on solar is acheivable and at that point it also becomes a viable energy source.

Screw those POS windmills. My ******* neighbor put one up and now everyone in the neighborhood has to listen to the whinning flapping pig 24 hours a day. He saves 20% on his electric bill every month at our expense. Trading one kind of pollution for another. They're damn sure not the solution to America's energy woes. Ruined our area. If you want to be the biggest most hated jerk off in the hood, put one of these noisey Skystream POS up in your yard. You can see it in the pic behind the tractor. Thanks for letting me vent. Carry on. lol

I kinda skimmed this thread but I will say this. You get more exposure to radiation by living withing 50 miles of a coal powered plant than you do a Nuclear plant.

Eat a banana every day and you get way more than the two combined.

Yep, the greenies used TMI to the fullest extent of the BS to help get us where we are today. Now greanpeace's founder calls for MORE nuclear generation. One thing, Keep the diesel generators above and away from any body of water

Honestly I see nothing wrong with using hydro, wind and solar energy. There are places where it will work great and places it won't work at all. Bottom line is that solar, wind, etc will never power our country 100%. Just not possible. Nuclear is where it is at. It is safe, it lasts and in the long run it is cheap.

One way or another, we need to invest the money here at home on our infrastructure that is now failing or becoming obsolete.... The more money we put into our own economy instead of foreign countries, the better off we will be.

Power, Water, Schools, Roads, and other local projects that will put folks to work and generate more tax revenue in the process.
