alright this is not ment to be a bash fest or anything this is real time FACTS of the snow in SEVERAL different snow conditions from fluff to crust to the DEEEP to the wet!
start of the season me and my best friend each bought two sleds
mine being a 2008 m8 sno pro 153
his being a 2007 summit XRS 800 151
just so you know neither of us are sled bias tewards one or the other. here are our negatives/positives for the two sleds.
-S800 in low powder condidtions (2/3 feet) is a lot harder to turn on its side back n forth confortably.
-M8 starts second pull everytime, even when rolled over 2 times to get outa a hole. the S800 will leave you pulling for 20 minutes.
-m8 sidehills easier
-S800 wants to throw you over the bars in low snow condition throwing around.
-m8 wont work your thumb all day
-S8 has fouled 2 plugs, m8 0
-m8 is a lot easier to get to everything while working on it. (no frame rails going right over the motor.
-Gas is easier to see/read on a M
-S800 has better stock ski's
-S800 has better traction track (although another buddy ripped his in half) its a mean track when it holds up!
-Both have descent standing rails but cats REALLY grip your boots
-M8 float rear suspension is really smooth and easily adjustable.
-S800 every ride my buddy was taking his boot off and squeezing out his sock dripping with water from his clutch melting it on his boot. (EVERY RIDE) we went on a two day ride this year and his foot by the end of the trip was hurting him so bad it looked like a prune and was just in strait pain he said.
-M8 needs work done to the front nose cone to prevent snow buildup in the nose.
-Both of us have changed 1 belt in 650 miles.
-we rode eachothers sleds on 2 rides.
-M8 gets LESS fuel milage then the S800.
Ski-doo warranty and parts are really crappy compaired to cats, i bought a 5 year warranty on my m8 sled for 750$ he couldnt buy a 2 year extension for 900$
we both agree to everyone of these facts.
the two sleds side by side in my garage and the m8's standing rails tewards the back are 5" higher (able to trench deeper without the rails hitting and stopping you) the doo wider track might be why they can get away with this.
just some fun facts from two non bias riders. love both the sleds, both got us everywhere the other got to with smiles on our faces.
after a whole season of riding he will be selling is doo to buy a cat, mainly for the warranty and the easilility of throwing it around for fast boondocking dodging trees ect going up hills, the easibility of always starting. we had two rides this year where his 800 limped itself back to the trucks in some retarted mode or soemthing he had to pin it then let completly off pin it let compleltly off to get it to go 5 mph all the way back to the truck. ski-doo shop here locally was 2 weeks out and for any riders here thats two weekends of riding atleast!!! (im sure there are a lot of great doo dealers) but the one locally is really crappy.
you can all disagree with me all you want but these are all rock solid facts from two completly unbiased riders.
FACTS from the two sleds we have had, i would be compairing this to a XP but it isnt worthy due to pulling my buddys XP outa the woods 3-4 times. he brought it back to the dealer cause the Y pipe rattled itself off and they wouldnt warranty it saying it was a maintenance issue!!!! his handwarmers dont work, well i could go on and on but thats why my best friend bought the 07 XRS cause the xp just isnt reliable enough to go 30/40 miles back into the mountains like we do.
we went on one ride with the dragon 800 and i liked it, but have no imput on it because i didnt get to ride it. seems like everyone i seen that had one was afraid to ride it like we do ours so there wasnt nowhere to compare it.
the winner being the m8 in both our eyes and he now wants one to replace his 800 rev.
