My 07/08 Sled reviews for alaska in 08 season.

alright this is not ment to be a bash fest or anything this is real time FACTS of the snow in SEVERAL different snow conditions from fluff to crust to the DEEEP to the wet!

start of the season me and my best friend each bought two sleds

mine being a 2008 m8 sno pro 153
his being a 2007 summit XRS 800 151

just so you know neither of us are sled bias tewards one or the other. here are our negatives/positives for the two sleds.

-S800 in low powder condidtions (2/3 feet) is a lot harder to turn on its side back n forth confortably.

-M8 starts second pull everytime, even when rolled over 2 times to get outa a hole. the S800 will leave you pulling for 20 minutes.

-m8 sidehills easier

-S800 wants to throw you over the bars in low snow condition throwing around.

-m8 wont work your thumb all day

-S8 has fouled 2 plugs, m8 0

-m8 is a lot easier to get to everything while working on it. (no frame rails going right over the motor.

-Gas is easier to see/read on a M

-S800 has better stock ski's

-S800 has better traction track (although another buddy ripped his in half) its a mean track when it holds up!

-Both have descent standing rails but cats REALLY grip your boots

-M8 float rear suspension is really smooth and easily adjustable.

-S800 every ride my buddy was taking his boot off and squeezing out his sock dripping with water from his clutch melting it on his boot. (EVERY RIDE) we went on a two day ride this year and his foot by the end of the trip was hurting him so bad it looked like a prune and was just in strait pain he said.

-M8 needs work done to the front nose cone to prevent snow buildup in the nose.

-Both of us have changed 1 belt in 650 miles.

-we rode eachothers sleds on 2 rides.

-M8 gets LESS fuel milage then the S800.

Ski-doo warranty and parts are really crappy compaired to cats, i bought a 5 year warranty on my m8 sled for 750$ he couldnt buy a 2 year extension for 900$

we both agree to everyone of these facts.

the two sleds side by side in my garage and the m8's standing rails tewards the back are 5" higher (able to trench deeper without the rails hitting and stopping you) the doo wider track might be why they can get away with this.

just some fun facts from two non bias riders. love both the sleds, both got us everywhere the other got to with smiles on our faces.

after a whole season of riding he will be selling is doo to buy a cat, mainly for the warranty and the easilility of throwing it around for fast boondocking dodging trees ect going up hills, the easibility of always starting. we had two rides this year where his 800 limped itself back to the trucks in some retarted mode or soemthing he had to pin it then let completly off pin it let compleltly off to get it to go 5 mph all the way back to the truck. ski-doo shop here locally was 2 weeks out and for any riders here thats two weekends of riding atleast!!! (im sure there are a lot of great doo dealers) but the one locally is really crappy.

you can all disagree with me all you want but these are all rock solid facts from two completly unbiased riders.

FACTS from the two sleds we have had, i would be compairing this to a XP but it isnt worthy due to pulling my buddys XP outa the woods 3-4 times. he brought it back to the dealer cause the Y pipe rattled itself off and they wouldnt warranty it saying it was a maintenance issue!!!! his handwarmers dont work, well i could go on and on but thats why my best friend bought the 07 XRS cause the xp just isnt reliable enough to go 30/40 miles back into the mountains like we do.

we went on one ride with the dragon 800 and i liked it, but have no imput on it because i didnt get to ride it. seems like everyone i seen that had one was afraid to ride it like we do ours so there wasnt nowhere to compare it.

the winner being the m8 in both our eyes and he now wants one to replace his 800 rev.

Cats rear suspension smoother than a doo? or any other sled for that matter? WOW...i have never heard that opinion before!!!

good review...your experiences more or less parallel mine, only it was an 08 m-8 and an 08 xp....dependability in the mountains is a warm and fuzzy that's tuff to quantify, but when it happens, you're real glad it happens to someone else....i ride with several groups of guys, the doo's got a lot more rope time, and special trips necessary for special fixes (drive shafts for one)

I love the new suspension on the 08 also. The last time we went into the mountains two sleds limped home and two were towed home (one 08 XP). It sucks to have problems when you’re that far into a ride. The M8 performed flawless. Ran great all year.

My bro came up from Utah to ride the Alaska snow in the middle of February and brought a couple of great riders with him. We could not find any M8's to rent so we had to settle for the 08 800 XP's. We spent 3 day's cussing them up at Petersville because they could not go 10 miles in wet heavy snow with out the belts coming apart! We went through 12 belts in 3 days! ended up parking one of them and riding the back up sled because we were running out of belts. The sled has awesome power but they are having serious belt issues!! I broke trail and led the pack on my 07 M8 the whole week and never lost a belt. In fact I have over 1000 miles on this belt. We raced acrossed a lake with untouched snow to see how they would do against my M8. I seriously thought they would out pull me but I smoked them by at least 10 sleds in a 1/2 mile.
Any way I enjoyed your honest review and had to through my in with you!
Arctic cat has impressed me! I am loving my M8.

i never said it was the smoothest suspension ive been on lol. its a mountain sled! however for a mountain sled i can adjust it with an air pump depending on the snow conditions, i lose 4 pounds without a spring, to do that on a doo you gotta spend some CASHOLA! :) but i do love there ported track.

i think the new cat track is what the M needed from day one! havnt rode it yet but ill be purchasing one! from the reviews it will rip you outa your seat compaired to the camoplast. ill be getting one ASAP!

i had a buddy rent a 800 XP summit from the rental shop in wasilla and the guy charged him for a belt he blew even though the factory warrantys the belts.... we only drove 40 miles. dont ever rent from them ripoffs!!!!

ive rode the rented XP up a few hills it seemed like a wheely monster, hope skidoo makes it tougher and more reliable and they will have something id be willing to bring 30 miles back in the mountains.

a) Who the hell races mountain sleds for a 1/2 mile

b) If your stock 07 M8 162 was smoking any Xp by any double-digit number of lengths, congrats because you have the fastest one ever.

yeah I guess those M's do need to go on a diet. good idea to ditch the spring! LOL.......just messin with ya man. To each his own....thats why they make several different styles of sleds......to suit everyones different riding style and prioritys...I guess for me an XP is somewhat like a mod sled....you cant always count on it coming home in one piece but it sure runs!!! The joys of sledding.....great big money pit!

is it the sled or the person that needs to go on a diet i only weigh 120-130 pounds on a good day.. no 08 sled i have been on (i have rode them all except yamaha) felt heavy to me however they all threw around differntly and performed better then the other in different snow conditions.

i prefer to shut people up on the mountain not in the forums but i understand not everyone has the lightweight body like my ***. why is it that for being lighter the rev/xp are a harder sled to throw around?

how much do i got on you just by stepping on my sled?

hahaha my 15" wide track probably sinks just as much as your 16" track cause of my weight.

i think it would be cheaper for half these people to get lighter gear and go on a diet to lose 30 pounds then it would be to drop if off a 150 hp aluminum chasis.

hahaha

Wow, nice review. And double WOW that XP owners get real defensive right away. True, in AK you need a reliable sled to go way back into the mtns, I go 85 miles out around and back again so I know what you are talking about. Cat's have always crossed my mind, maybe someday I'd bite one. But for now I am enjoying my RMK.

Good review. And I ride an XP. Different strokes for different folks. It is too bad the rental sled's motor's weren't aligned, as to alliveate the belt problems. The belts were an issue, untill the proper alignment, and proper belt were done. At least you rode an xp before posting about it.

yeah

yeah, i did like that xp's wheeling the short time i rode it! hope skidoo adds 10 pounds and makes them bad chickens reliable. honestly i think its funny cause i dont even consider the XP in the same league any sled thats first year production you wont see me purchace even if its cat/poo/doo/yama

there definatly on to something eager to see the 09's
