must read if your dragon 800 SUCKS!!!!

ak Ilive in Dallas and read all of your entries or threads, all of them are sincere and honorable, competent, and informative. You are devoted as anyone can tell from reading your replies and info. Great job, I hope somehow you are rewarded for your dedication. I am in the market for a sled but am scared to death of getting a bad one. I am 67 and can't walk out. Had a 2002 700 rmk, never let me down, but I don't think a 2010 will be that reliable. Please read lognomors entry on FAN blowing on Rectifier and ecm. Interesting, I considered the heat issue when VR were blowing. Good luck on a great job your'e doing. Keep it up! Ron S

As a business owner i can see both sides yet I side with Monte he is absolutly correct. It's my sled that has the parts robbed to keep folks running and the CEO should pay for not having the correct amount of management time spent on the problem. An easy fix ( but spendy) would be to ask dealerships for info reguarding customers with multiple problems and then replace those sleds with carry over units from the field that have been inspected by factory techs sent out in the field, spendy up front by to retain customers it would be a good investment. IMO

please elaborate on "how to ride a two stroke" haha

I would hope he means the factory or some dealers were implying that people were partially to blame for holding their sleds in the rpm range that was melting down these sleds due to running too lean. I was one of the guys that heard that from my previous dealers mouth, not specifically telling me it was all my fault, but don't hold steady on the throttle. Keep moving the rpms up and down. REALLY!!? That's just stupid. They should put THAT in the owner's manual if they really want to be able to walk away from this problem. Screw the pipe and "aftermarket" parts thing!:target:

I Love snowmobiling and this sled "BUT" I agree with a lot of people on this site, Polaris should of did a better job with this sled. And Hell this is just a winter toy for me:face-icon-small-fro

Now your going off the deep end on that one , first if you paid that for your sled your dealer is doing really good next you did after that have someone build you a custom sled you picked out all the stuff you wanted to personalize it. Lastly I am with everone on the Poo could have done better, that being said you can't say they have left everyone high and dry cuz they have tried and finally gotten it right or close but it's my toy that I love to throw money at just like my boat or 57 chev, If you love sleden and want to be a purist get a 600 rmk with no ad ons and test your skills but if you want the best on the hill it costs ; even when the factory messes up it's just that that adds to the fire. Sure we can get after Poo but we still have to be reasonable IMO

I WAS a Polaris mechanic for 20 years, I even snow checked a 05 900 and a 09 800. I always bought new sleds so I could relate to any customer complaints, but I just couldn't take the customer complaints/problems knowing there was nothing I could do to help as Polaris wouldn't help either. Polaris even stopped warrantying machines that were only a few weeks out of warranty, that was the last straw. To me it seems the death spiral started with the need for efi to pass emissions, the driveability is terrible, the lack of fuel and oil kills the reliability, the fuel mileage is no better, actually worse, and the hp would be better on the same motor with carbs. I realize due to the govt there's no way around this, Polaris just needs to do more R&D before releasing a product. In the Edge era I can't remember any recalls or updates, great machines, easy to work on, Polaris' hayday. So once again I've sold my new sled and found a new Edge in the crate to ride for a few years. It's only a 600 but I put a 660 kit in and couldn't be happier. I probably won't find another new one so I'll have to ride this one for while but that's ok. The only advise I can give is, if you're going to buy a new sled, buy the extended warranty for as long as you plan on keeping it, you're gonna need it, it's cheap in the long run.

Well I owned an Edge 800 03 escape. I know of two recalls, one was the stearing post recall and I believe there was a clutch bushing recall not sure though. They SHOULD HAVE recalled those 800 cranks!!!!!! but chose to ignore that one. I personally rebuilt mine after it snapped and have done 3 others for the same reason. The dealer showed little simpathy and poo certainly didn't care when I called the 800 number. I wish someone would have started a class action back then. It may have gotten poos attention then so you folks wouldn't be having this problem now I left poo and have not looked back. To bad too because the sleds do work well if they can be kept running. Good luck guys.

Law suit

I would suggest including the 900RMK in this law suit and i would without question be onboard, Polaris has had problems way before the 800 dragon. As i have said before you guys with the 800 should have read the endless posts on the 900RMK.

Dont worry fellas they will come up with an update to fix the problems AFTER they are all out of warranty! Kind of like the crank update kit that was avialable for the 900s last year after every single one even extended warranties were up! NICE

hopefully polaris will do good in the next few years in atv sales:face-icon-small-hap buddy has a rzr and he lost some gears in his transmission because a detent ball and spring fell out. polaris told him because he parked on a hill HOW DUMB IS THAT

I have a Dragon that ran great with the original motor. Its hard to say it runs crappy (only becuase I have a tough time keeping it on the snow and out of the shop). I am now the proud owner of a 2010 Rex XP and I FREAKING LOVE IT!

Thanks for nothin' Polaris.

i have owned one polaris in my 54 years a 2000 rmk that I bought in 2001 with 800 miles. at 1000 miles the crank came apart, poo would not warnt. it because I was not the origanal owner. rode it all of 2001 and 2002 I lost the crank 2 more times. that was enough for me, why do you people keep buying polaris ? as far as Im concernd polaris has only built 1 good sled that was 700rmk.

Maybe you guys could use this, I don't know what polaris warranty says regarding aftermarket parts.

The relevant legislation here, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975, protects consumers from being wrongfully denied warranty coverage by new car dealers.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states, in part, in Title 15, United States Code, Section 2302, subdivision (c):
No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the [Federal Trade] Commission if —

(1) the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and

(2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest. The Commission shall identify in the Federal Register, and permit public comment on, all applications for waiver of the prohibition of this subsection, and shall publish in the Federal Register its disposition of any such application, including the reasons therefore.

Under this federal statute, a manufacturer who issues a warranty on your motor vehicle is prohibited from requiring you to use a service or maintenance item, unless such item is provided, free of charge, under your warranty or unless the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) waives this prohibition against the manufacturer.

Further, under the act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not automatically void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warranty, or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure.

Specifically, the rules and regulations adopted by the FTC to govern the interpretation and enforcement of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act are set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 16 - Commercial Practices, Chapter I - Federal Trade Commission, Subchapter G - Rules, Regulations, Statements and Interpretations under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Part 700 - Interpretations under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Contained within these rules and regulations is Section 700.10, which states:
No warrantor may condition the continued validity of a warranty on the use of only authorized repair service and/or authorized replacement parts for non-warranty service and maintenance. For example, provisions such as, "This warranty is void if service is performed by anyone other than an authorized 'ABC' dealer and all replacement parts must be genuine 'ABC' parts," and the like, are prohibited where the service or parts are not covered by the warranty. These provisions violate the Act in two ways. First, they violate the section 102(c) ban against tying arrangements. Second, such provisions are deceptive under section 110 of the Act, because a warrantor cannot, as a matter of law, avoid liability under a written warranty where a defect is unrelated to the use by a consumer of "unauthorized" articles or service. This does not preclude a warrantor from expressly excluding liability for defects or damage caused by such "unauthorized" articles or service; nor does it preclude the warrantor from denying liability where the warrantor can demonstrate that the defect or damage was so caused.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. If the dealer cannot prove such a claim — or it proffers a questionable explanation — it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission administers the Magnuson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

This is all I could find on Polaris sled engine warranty.

One Year Factory Warranty
A one-year limited warranty exists against defects in material or workmanship as determined by Polaris Sales in its sole discretion for Polaris Snowmobiles.

Products used for racing do not carry a manufacturer’s warranty.

Products used commercially or for rental purposes may carry varied warranty periods. Contact your local Polaris dealer for more information.

2nd Year Engine Warranty
The 2nd year coverage applies only to qualifying Snow Check Purchases that have engine failures due to defects in materials and workmanship as determined by Polaris in its sole discretion. Coverage automatically begins upon expiration of the original factory warranty. The 2nd year engine warranty carries a $50 deductible per repair. This warranty applies to the first 5,000 miles or two (2) calendar years from date of registration, whichever comes first. Used snowmobiles do not fall under this warranty.

maybe some of you should get out of snowmobiling or learn how to ride them all of the dragons that ive been around run just fine even the turbos they even are warrantying my neighbors 09 800 with a turbo the ecu burned out he took it into the dealer and they replaced it
just like any other sled they have their problems

Just how ignorant are you at 16? These are not isolated cases of motor failure we are talking about. Mine has been to 2 different dealers and is still not fixed after thousands of dollars in replaced parts. I just rode with a guy last week that has 4 800's and every one was in the shop. Pull your head out and look around, you will see that this is a widespread issue.
