Mtn Tamer or RMK Pro Coil Over

Anyone who has ridden both the new RMK Pro coil over and a 155" with the Mtn Tamer suspension kit... Which is a better ALL AROUND skid?
 
All around for what??

What mods, what track, what kind of rider weight, ability, preference for type of riding?

The better "profile" you put of yourself and riding.. the more accurate the answer will be.

I just spent the last 4 days riding great pow and before that everything you can think of on the T sled skid... I got a couple of days on the new Pro RMK as well.
 
ok. I'm lookin to get an Assault Switchback 800 144. I was considering the idea of putting a Mtn Tamer skid in because the 144 is not a coil over. Just wondering which skid is a better overall performer, the Mtn Tamer or RMK Coil Over. All around meaning aggressive trail manners, great offtrail manners, tight trees, boondocking, not mile long steep and deep hill climbs, both powder and setup snow any time of the year riding. Don't know the track setup yet, but it wont be the stock switchback track. either a 2" or change drivers and get a 2.25 or something...
 
I don't have too much time on the coil over's. However i do have a Timber sled skid on my 09 Assault 146 with a 2.5 camo ext and it rocks! No complaints with the timber skid, it works in all types of riding, including the flatlands here in MN!

No busting shock mounts or twisting torque arms up? (within reason of course!) It takes all the abuse of MN?
 
I've pounded the snot out of the timbersled in all backcountry riding situations. Rutted-up climbs behind turbo sleds... Bad sharp edged 15 mile mogul trails getting to the backcountry.... deep snow climbing and everything in between. I have had great luck with my skid...

I DO have the 2010 Mtn. Tamer X model with the Float X shock with DSC on it (Hi & Lo compresssion circuits, Rebond adjustments, and air pressure adjustments) It took me a little bit of time to dial it into how I like to ride and get a feel for it... but it did everything that I expected a high performance aftermarket skid to do.

I've done some pretty bone rattling G-out high speed hits that botomed out the suspension hard (rider error) and have since had the skid out of the sled for Hyfax replacement (broken scratchers, running on ice trails).... no bending of the new 7075 aluminum 1" cross shaft or rear arm nor the shock shafts.

As far as the stock skids in the RMK's... the assault 155 coilover has the best shock package and calibration for the kind of trail/ditch banging you seem to be describing.

If your focus is on trail banging... IMO...neither the stock RMK coil over nor the timbersled are the ideal skids for that kind of riding... Both of them are backcountry skids.

As mountainhorse said, if you are looking for a trail/ditch suspension timber probably isn't your best bet. However, since we did get some snow in MN, i did put about 250 trail/ditch semi hardcore miles on mine with no problems. Now it wasn't all out, tail landing non stop like on my old IQR, but the timbersled after numerous bottom outs and a couple slight tail landings is fine. I think it helps its only 144 and not longer.
