Mt St Helens report? (Marble Mount)

I am new to the riding at St Helens but I went up a couple of weekends back and I think I was riding on this same chute that goes up to the crest. Do you access the look in the crater by going all the way around, I guess towards the right as you look up at the mountain? The path I was taking went up so that you could look off and see spirit lake. I went up and turned around near the top because I didn't know what kind of turnaround was waiting for me and the guys I was with didn't know either.

St helens this weekend

Yep, looks to be a great weekend for some spring time sledding. We are heading down for one last family outing.

Hopefully the coverage will stay decent through the weekend..

I'm not sure what your questions is... There are several chutes you can ride to get your towards the top. None of them have what I woudl call a great turn around spots and a lot of them have dangerous cornices that coudl let loose and give you a 2000-3000 feet straight drop to the bottom YEE HAAA!! So, you have to be careull up there when getting close to the crater rim.

There is NO legal access into the crater. That is pretty much off limits...

I hope that helps.

The guy I talked to a couple weekends ago, said he couldnt find a place to stop at, in 3 trips up. Here is a photo of his route/tracks. Looking up and
(2nd photo) to my right is Spirit Lake.

I will remind the "new to the area" rider that last year a guy had the rim cornice break off. It was all over the news! His son tried to grab him and was on his way in too, until the 3rd guy grabbed the kid. They Heli rescued the Dad from in the Crater. I heard it was about $14,000 in fines and fees when it was all done.....

Yea, that is the same route that I was riding a few weekends back but I kept turning out just off to the left of the last knoll on top. I would have liked to keep climbing up to see it you could stop and then hike up the last distance to get a view into the crater like the two pictures at the top of this thread.
I did hear about the guy that fell in the crater last year and I am not looking to be the next guy on the news, just wanted to check out a view of the crater.

Ill have 2 go check that out next season. last time I was there was back in 1988 on a phazer. you could ride into the crater from the side that blew off over looking whats left of spirit lake. we were climbing on the lava dome .thats not even there anymore.

Yea, thanks for the info. We went up through the flats picking our way around the rocks and then cut across the mountain and came out through Pine Creek. We had a great time but I think that will be my last ride for the year, the snow is going fast.

Last ride, I was thinking that too... but on the 3 hour drive home we started talking about next weekend.... I think there is still 1 more weekend left. Up Pine creek, a week of sun and hopefully NO rain, but the lahar will be burned out completely I'm sure. I was thinking of seeing how many people I can round up for a "oasis" sun pit party....

Far cry from Texas, eh?
