Mt. Baker Snow Report

nice!! So does this mean it is time to start working on the sleds to get them ready for the season??

When did you see it flyrider? Did you go up to the rockfield to see the coverage? Thinking about Thursday or Friday if we can make it.

Baker

As of yesterday I heard a rumor that there is a foot or so at the bathrooms so there is still not enough snow to ride through the meadows, I believe we need 24" before we can ride there.

Yep- less than 24" is jeopardizing the the riding area for everyone. It is enforced.

I was up there over the weekend and must say "It's stackin up quite nicely!"

If the expected storm comes in on Wednesday, we'll most likely have our 24". Just a matter of the forest service verification and pulling the closed signs.

I was up yesterday and walk to the bridge crossing to take the measurement. Using my snow probe there was about 18 to 20 inches tops. Today i'm sure it has settled even more. I would say by this weekend at the earliest unless the storms coming in Wednesday brings enough. To be safe I'd say wait it out till Friday if not Saturday.

Please, Please, Please dont ride until forest service give the OK. Baker is the closest place to ride and one of my favorites. We are in constant jeopardy of losing are riding areas and it just gives the environmentalists more ammunition. If you do though I hope Johnny Law is there with his ticket book. I heard the fine is huge.

PLEASE wait until we can offically ride don't ruin it for all.

wow I am so glad i read this before i went this weekend. . . . soooo can I go this weekend or do I have to wait still. my room mates both got sleds last week and we just wanted to go on a put around. I didnt want to go all the way to the cabin or anything but didnt know we had to wait for the hippies to tell us we can ride. . . . just still new to the area i guess. thanks for the heads up!:grouphug:

A lot of our favorite areas have a 24" of snow rule on the ground before we are supposed to head out. Always good to check with the FS...

Does anyone know a phone number or website to check to see if the areas are officially open?

Mt Baker rec area is 24" rule.
Most other areas where there are FS roads you can ride with less.
Technically in Wa you are supposed to wait until the official "closed to wheeled vehicles" sign is posted, but if there is a good amount of snow they don't generally write tickets. Just use common sense, if a car can drive on it, not a good idea to sled yet. Most areas look like they are or will be road rideable this weekend.
