Mountain Max? Plugs/Ignition?

This last weekend while riding I had some weird stuff happen. The sled was running great for the first hour or so and then it suddenly lost a decent amount of top end power but would idle fine. I checked and changed the plugs and found that the PTO side plug had developed a layer of some sort of greasy film over the entire top of the plug. Replacing the plug solved the problem for pry a half hour then it did it again. For the next few hours I would have to stop and clean the plug for it to run well. Then for some unknown reason, after one last cleaning the sled ran great for the rest of the day. Any ideas what was happening?

I would start with a set of plug wires, Didnt you say it had like 4000 + miles on it.

I dont know if you use dielectric grease on you plug wires, but that would explain the residue. Sounds like moving the plug wire around was fixing the problem more then cleaning the grease.

Try this, one night after it gets dark fire it up and let it warm up. Shut it down, let it heat soak for about 15 minutes (This helps warm up everthing under the hood like when you were riding). Then, start it up, take a spray bottle (cheap hand operated one, like what cleaners come in) and spray the igintion wire with soapy water. If it starts to miss or you see or hear any arcing you have found your problem.

Take a good look at the wire and coil for any signs of rubbing.

I like your album !

Take care, Charles

Alright thanks ill give that a try. I think maybe a new plug wire would be a good idea cause that particular one doesn't seem to be nearly as firm as the others when attached.
