mountain addiction not as secure as i thought

lost an empty fiver. Never did find it in 3' of powder when i went back

There's no way an empty can "just fell off", it must not have been installed correctly on both rails. I can lift the rear of my sled by the can handles.

I bought an 09 xp that had the rails already installed. Picked up a 3.3 gallon can.

Here is my problem it is almost impossible to get it on and off the rails it is extremely tight. Usually I have to use a rubber mallet to get the dam thing off. I have yet to mess with the rails I assume they are not set right?

Second It has that small wire at the end of the rail what or how does this work?

I thought it was really tight because it was new, even put a bit of lube on the rails and still extremely hard to put on almost impossible to get off.

Thoughts?

Mine was tight right out of the box but after giving it a few squirts of WD-40 it slides on and off rather easily. If still tight after this, you should make sure the previous owner installed the rails straight/square with one another.

The wire should have a cotter pin. Look at the other rail and there should be a small hole for the cotter pin to be secured through to stop the can from sliding off the rails.

The only time I have lost mine is when I thought I had it in both rail slots. But I was mistaken, even grab it and pulled on it like I do everytime. An yep I lost it, my buddy picked it up. I have rode miles and miles of ruff riding full of fuel. IMO one of the best racks out there.

put the can on and leave it there for a couple weeks, takes a bit of time for the tank to set to the rails...on my luggage and gas can there was a slight curve on the bottom to them and were a buggar to get off...now just a slight push and off it comes..

I have to sit on the ground and kick mine with both feet to get it on or off, and that's just how I want it to be. That way it won't come off by accident. I would be very nervous if it started going on and off easily.
