Motorcycle Crash on I-15

In an attempt to pay tribute to my forum name I exercised my Dartos Muscle today.

So there I was headed back to my office after leaving the airport on I-15 just crossing over 35th south . 3pm and traffic was moving along at 65-70 when I felt the motorcycle move unexpectedly to the left. At first I thought it was something on the road from the constuction but in short order I realized I had a tire going down.

I let off the throttle and checked the mirrors to get an idea what was behind me and saw a red car about 200-300 feet behind me in the far left lane. I i slowed down the directional changes became more abrupt and harder to control. I started weaving back and forth and drifting left while trying to slowdown.

It is at this point that I assume the front tire went completely flat and it took a couple of violent turns and DOWN I went. The bike went sliding and I hit the pavement and immediately stated rolling down the road like a wobbly football. as I was rolling all I could think about was that red car behind me, I caught a glimpse of it a couple of times.

AS I came to a stop I jumped up to see if I had to dodge a car. Luckily He stopped in plenty of time and helped me lift the bike up an move it to the side of the road. I didn't catch his name but he had a Delta Airlines Maintenance badge on still. THANK YOU!!!

The paramedics checked me out and looked at the road rash which amazingly didn't grind down into the meat anywhere, even my knees made it through pretty good. Still hard to believe, I guess being a rolly polly fat guy just made me roll instead of slide.

As a pure guess I think I went down between 40-50 mph.

So first my snowmobiles and trailer get stolen and now this. I'm beginning to not like 2009.

The front tire was getting close to being replaced but there was no history of punctures or cuts and it is a tube tire. I looked at it when we loaded it in my pickup and still could find why it when down???????

I need a spounsureship in Neosporin now. lol

good to hear you made it out alive! i always imagine it happening and think it would for sure kill a person.

A bony guy like me probably wouldn't fare so well!

road rash hurts the next day. good luck, and thank God your alive!

Just glad to see you're home posting and not layed up in the Hospital. Sorry to hear but Congrats on survival.:D:beer;

WOW! Glad you still have the dartos muscles intact as well! ;) That'd leave a mark! I got rid of my bike after laying my bike down twice at about 60 when ran off the road both times by cars not seeing me. Be safe out there boys and girls!

Geesh, I can't even imagine. Happy to hear your good at the tuck and roll and didn't have a worse out come.

glad to see ur still kickin man.. its like that commercial "tuck and roll grandma, tuck and roll" lol.. my lil bro didnt fare so well a few weeks ago.. lost the rear tire when he was riding my buell and laid it over.. his right leg looked like it ran thru a cheese grater when i got to him.. paramedics were able to stop the bleeding on the way to the hospital and after a few surgeries his leg should be full bore again.. its a shame for he just pulled a shot at racing this comin winter :(

Thanks everyone. I am a bit sore today but all the road rash looks real clean but feels like a bad sunburn.

Anybody need a BMW F650GS Dakar with a couple of scapes on it. I'm getting a 4 wheeler!!!!!!

That's not all true either. I have have been in a cast for the past 4 weeks and looking at several more waiting for my achilles tendion to heal after getting it sewn back on  I tore it off on my YZ450f chasing my boy around on the mx track... I should have stuck to chasing the other old, slow fat guys instead of my boy :D

the bike didnt cause you to wreck the track did. tracks are all good until you get out of rhythm, then things can get bad real quick.
it would of been alot worse if it was on a quad. plus if the quad lands on you it would feel a whole lot worse and do more damage.

When I read about a motorcycle accident the first thing that comes to mind is - Was the rider "geared up?"... Being a fellow sportbike and dirtbike rider you try not to think about a low or high side crash and how you would fare in one...

I know, it should be is the rider ok, etc... and yes I am glad you came out in realatively good shape... and that you are ok...

So the question remains (due to the roadrash) were you geared up and what were your wearing (besides a helmet)?

Now there's an idea. I think that if I was going to ride and over weight 4 stroke on the snow I would just go buy a Yamaha.

I always wondered if I would be able to put my bike into a skid if needed. I found out real quick when a truck pulled out in front of me. It's amazing what you do to survive and what runs through your head at the time.
