Well my 2nd vice after sledding appears to have become river running.
Saturday my buddy Bruce and I were invited along with some people (kids as I call them... group of single 25-30 year olds) on Westwater again. They have only been on there a couple of times and wanted some one with more experience to help them... turned out to not help them, maybe they should have invited someone besides Bruce and I.
I made a good run through Skull, kids in paddle boat behind, not so much.
11 people in a big paddle boat, 8 of them ended up swimming.
Skull rapid swimming
The one that isn't back in the boat, Lisa, had to float down river about 500 yards through the gut of the canyon before I was able to get to her to pick her up. She is my new hero... once we pulled her in to my boat she stood up with a big smile on her face and screamed "That's the most fun I've ever had". Ya, well it scared me having her in the water that long. When you are 25 years old I suppose not much scares you.
Good time had by all anyway. Water still stupid high and fast makes one day through Westwater pretty easy... total time of 3.5 hours to cover the 17 miles.
