More closures in Revy?

I just found this poll being done on the Revelstoke Times Review website, asking whether more snowmobile closures should be put in place to recover Mountain Caribou. I found it on an environmental website (Wildsight) so you know they're all over it. Everybody go there now and vote "NO"! So far the tree huggers are in the lead.

I voted...I think you need to repost this in general or at least the western BC riding area page.It will get alot more views and more votes.I fear that not being able to ride in revy is alot closer than people think...:(

Trust me....I did that first! Gonna get it on snowandmud.com today too. I find it sad that a post about the Big Iron Shootout is gettting more attention that something that could contribute to the end of it. :(

In our area we have lost 80% of our riding areas effective February 17, 2009 due to the Mountain Caribou recovery. I just can't believe how this whole thing went down, looks like the tree huggers are winning. It's rather unfortunate in our area that people don't realize when they don't buy memberships and support their local club we lose areas without much discussion. There is supposed to be strength in numbers, but when you have such a low membership it effects ALL sledders as a whole. Pretty soon we will have NOWHERE to ride.

I find that extremely sad too... I really dont think the people who are putting it on could care less about land issues. And as for the riders who are going they have thier heads in the sand(snow?)... Revy IS going to be closed,it's not a "is it going to be" it's a "when is it going to be" question. An event like that no matter how well run is gonna give the greenies ammo to close the hills to sleds..They will twist it around to look good for them and bad for sledders now matter what the outcome.:(

BigBull posted a link in the spokane section that snows all the new closeures for the caribu,I'm not good at reading maps but it looks like ALOT of revy is now closed?? If someone could show me where in revy the closeure is I would be thankful.

I'm not good at reading this type of map, could someone point out where boulder is? There are three revy maps, map 50,51 and 52 I think.

It is amazeing to me that they closed so many millions of acres to save 20 caribou.

After 3 yrs. of negotiations to complete our Stewardship Managment Agreement and working with gov. for over 20 yrs. to protect the areas that are already closed to snowmobiling for mtn. caribou we were told we would not have any additional closures. The areas you see on the maps are closures that were already in effect for this area.
We have already lost 60% of our riding areas to the north to mtn. caribou habitat and now they are asking for an additional 75%.
The club and society met with the paper last Thurs. I will post that article when the paper comes out on Wed. Guy that wrote the article wouldn`t even meet with us, think he was scared. :face-icon-small-win We are going to take the reporters for a ride real soon, I let you know how that goes to.
Funny how Ms. Thompson doesn`t even mention that 50% of the 20 animals in this area spend their winters in our most heavily used snowmobile areas or mention that the animals have moved out of the national parks that are closed to back country recreation.

.........and oh boy would I ever like to take Ms. Thompson for a ride.

I have been asked by Aaron Orlando the editor of the Arrow Lakes New to correct my passage "would not meet with you" because it is incorrect. I did not "Formally" request a meeting with him and the story was given to another reporter.
Orlando sorry to hear you are unable to attend the ride on Fri. hope you will be available in the very near future. No better place than up top to show you our efforts and programs we run and we have found it to be the best place to have meetings with people so they are fully able to appreciate our efforts.

Just out of curiosity I am wondering how you were lead to this post, if it was from another site could you please tell us which one?
