Monthly food budget

We have about $350 in the budget / month for family of 4. BUT my dad buys me and my sisters family a half a beef a year, and half a hog... So we buy no meat... Half beef last us pretty much all year...

Plus we freeze green beans and corn from the garden every year....

Try buying groceries in Canada...

My old lady goes to school in Minot, ND and it shocks me how much cheaper most things are than at home. For instance, I eat a lot of ready to serve soup, and a decent deal on Campbell's Chunky is $2.25 / can here, and it's $1.25 down there. Cheese is bizarre cheap too. Kraft Singles are nearly $5 for a 36 pack here and the last time I looked they're closer to $2 there. I load up the cart here and I'm looking at a minimum of $100 to $120. When she moved in down there, we went shopping and loaded a cart to the nutz and it was just about $70.

I hate to break it to you Beels....Kraft singles isn't cheese....it is processed chit. ;)

well us too family of 6 ...but we stock pile like Squirrels ............so monthly is a little less than most I would assume ..because we grow all of our own veggies, can them when time .....stuff Moose and Caribou in the freezers ..make jam from wild strawberries and raspberries ..........fresh Halibut into the freezer ......ptarmigan and fresh eggs to boot ..........1 pig a year ..pretty much says it all ..........

GOT SURVIVAL .....................too bad :(

Your not kidding, food prices here are ridiculous compared to the U.S.I can walk into the Grocery store for a few items and have spent 50.00 for two bags.

all our children have moved out so just the two of us and we have a big garden and I canned every thing I can, the kids come over on the weekend for dinners.but we still spend around 350.00 a month.. and have nothing!

Groceries are insane up north here. For 3 people we easily spend $250 sometimes $300 for groceries, that only lasts less then 2 weeks. And we still eat out quite a bit most of the time. But we really don't budget it, just throw whatever catches the eye LOL. I love my pop and junk food :D

Including eating out, I bet we spend $2500 a month easily, it is insane.

We have been budgeting $500 a month for me, the wife and our two boys, ages 10 & 11. I have noticed milk has been around about $1.40 gallon here, seems cheap. We tell the boys "when we run out of food we run out until the next shopping day. They are learning to "spread" the food consumption out.

Wow that's cheap milk, here if I remember right it's like $6-7......Guess I notice how so many of you guys have low budgets, stuff up here is just crazy price in comparison!

Sucks though that money is tight you have to worry about food :(
