Monthly food budget

Still working on the Dave Ramsey Plan and put $300 in the envelope ($150 per payday) for 4 people per month.

24 year old and single, lotsa fast food so probably a lot. I spend more money on booze every month so at least it takes a backseat to something. toys come before both though so i will dine on a pork chop in a can if it comes down to it :beer;

My husband and I average about $300 a month for the both of us. Lots of produce, no fast food. We only go out to eat two or three times a month. The price drops when our vegetable garden is producing!

When I was about 17 yrs. I survived on frozen mixed veggies and noddles and the occasional meal from a friends family for at least 6 weeks... cost nearly nothing, and somewhat healthy.?

Here in northern B.C. I see rice on sale for $8.99 for 8kg. (18 lbs.) Chicken & pork is about 2 bucks a lb. buy some beans and vegetables, some noddles, your set! This is the time of year to buy fresh veggies, and fruit.

Load the freezer up with fish, hunting season is right around the corner...

That's good advice, I wish I followed it...;)

the wife, the kid and me= about 300 a month.
we dont buy much meat, we have deer and elk in the freezer, that makes a big difference.

I got assigned to welfare fraud a little bit ago. Ya it's not as sexy! :( Guess what 3 people on food stamps get a month? LMAO $526! A single person can get up to 200 a month! This is supposed to be supplemental too! I wish I could get 526 a month for me and my 2 boys! That would free up a lot of money!

.

That has always pissed me off. I have several friends who work at grocery stores and they all say the same thing. The people on gvt assistance buy EXPENSIVE stuff that us on a budget do not allow ourselves to get.

we have cut way down on or budget. no gabage food. been buying whole hogs cut and wrapped smoked for 280 and 1/2 beef for about 450. seems like the only way to buy meat. it taste alot better too

We have a family of 6 at home, plus 2 out of 3 step kids that eat over regularly. In addition we try to invite my hubby's God Father over for supper routinely. We don't eat out, and try to make as much as possible from scratch. Lots of veggies and fruit. I spend between 1200.00 to 1300.00 a month on groceries.

Don't even get me started, I have this kid that works for me as a cook and he is shacked up with his lover, 23 year old mother of 4 with 1 of them being his and she is going to school on her rich uncle Sam as well. He stops at the grocery store every morning on his way to work and gets a big f'n steak to cook for breakfast, well every day except when he gets crab legs because he's sick of steak. I want to scream. His lover is going to school for med tech and she can't even freaking write, our tax dollars at work.

You guys dont have it too bad...out here in maui I have a family of 3, and my son just turned a year old. We have been really trying to stretch our money but can easily spend 5-600 on groceries. I was pretty excited when our last trip to costco only came out to 260.00

For an example Milk runs about 5 bucks a gallon out here.

For a family of 5 we were spending $800 to $1000 a month. We are now budgeting ourselves to $600 per month. So far we have been able to stay on budget. One of the things we are cutting out is packaged snack foods.

That's crazy! I love milk...about 3 gallons a week for myself! I spend about $250 a month, no junk food and lot's of fruits and veggies. I think I eat pretty well, I love sea food, but $$$$. Salmon on the grill tomorrow!:D

hey Sturgis ..good for you on the baby step Dave Ramsey deal .....hey Mom you goota curb then growing kids LOL

well us too family of 6 ...but we stock pile like Squirrels ............so monthly is a little less than most I would assume ..because we grow all of our own veggies, can them when time .....stuff Moose and Caribou in the freezers ..make jam from wild strawberries and raspberries ..........fresh Halibut into the freezer ......ptarmigan and fresh eggs to boot ..........1 pig a year ..pretty much says it all ..........

GOT SURVIVAL .....................too bad :(

My wife and I spend about 250 a month :( But my wife is an excellent cook, so we eat a little more gourmet than ramen noodles :) Food is expensive.

Try buying groceries in Canada...

My old lady goes to school in Minot, ND and it shocks me how much cheaper most things are than at home. For instance, I eat a lot of ready to serve soup, and a decent deal on Campbell's Chunky is $2.25 / can here, and it's $1.25 down there. Cheese is bizarre cheap too. Kraft Singles are nearly $5 for a 36 pack here and the last time I looked they're closer to $2 there. I load up the cart here and I'm looking at a minimum of $100 to $120. When she moved in down there, we went shopping and loaded a cart to the nutz and it was just about $70.
