Monte Cristo - 11/26/10

Great time on the hill today with the new Pro. Parking lot is a mess, some people were never taught how to park, however they were working on clearing it when we left.

Road is covered all the way to Curtis Creek. The hills of Arbs Basin have 3 - 4 feet and should be pretty tracked by now. Rocks and stumps are showing through on the ridges but the canyons are deep and fun.

Here is to the next storm.

The road is not yet groomed, alot of drifts in the normal places. As for the parking lot, they were not charging yesterday, that is probably due to not being able to get into the parking lot.

Yeah i agree it was a freakin joke. We pulled to the end of the road and because everyone parked half way in the road way we couldn't turn the trailer around and just had to pull into a spot eventhough we were blocked in by the truck behind us. When we left the parking lot was good they had most of the one side done. Other than parking it was a great sunny day, just have to be careful where ya ride as stumps and rocks are showing in some spots.

Rode monte today, it was just as good as any day last year.

They have plowed the parking lot, and they are charging.

They started grooming the road as well.

Down low there isn't enough snow but the higher you go the better it gets. After poser hill, I mean little monte, there is enough snow to relax a little and not worry about suprises. The snow that's on the ground now will make a great base, and the next storm or two should put the snowpack exactly where it needs to be. We played in the trees all day where we know there's lots of stumps and didn't have any damage.

Be careful riding the "gas line" they've been up there doing work and it's terraced on the hills that have created deep snow swells. Then to top it off it's a sheet of ice. I would give it a few more storms before i'd ride it again.

Shaping up to be a good year.

Snow's supposed to taper off in the morning so we'll probably get up there about 10:30. Give me a shout if you want to go or meet us later in the parking lot.

Tons of feather lite soft pow up top today. Still pretty thin at the parking lot and I'd be a bit worried going cross country all day even up top. Great snow for November, just need to get used to my new DOO.

Back up to Monte this morning. Hands were too cold to take any pictures. Talked to DNR while getting my season parking pass, they had 5 contractors up there bidding on clearing the parking lot this morning. It was mentioned they got caught off-guard with the snow this early. The snow is sparse from the gate up to the power line then the new snow starts stacking up, 18-24 inches of pure heaven. Anywhere you got off the road you were pushing fluffy white stuff over your hood. Still have to take consideration for the rocks and stumps...

Still have to take consideration for the rocks and stumps...

X2 on the rocks^^^^^^

Took out the lower a arm on a my new sled on Thursday 12/2/10. Then really need one more good snow before you can relax.

Went went snowboiling on Saturday Dec 4 up to Monte through SR39 and it was snow covered and had good snow pile. Played all day with our family.... However, on our way out at about 4:30 pm on our way back to our truck.... we ran into snowplows. According to UDOT, and Utah state parks that road is closed for the season and is to be maintained for snowmobilers. We found out that Associate Pipeline obtained a permit to do a pipleline through the entire winter season because they are not where they should be on there line. We talk to a Brent throught the UDOT Ogden, Ut office and according to him "they are to leave enough on the edge for snowmobliers" however; Dave Smith with Ruby pipeline said he don't care about the snowmobliers and that his permit doesn't say that. He basically said he will go as far and plow as much road as they need. The people that they hired plowed from edged to edged, I have to "brand new" sleds that have burned up highfaxs and scaggs.....If you would like to call and chat with Dave Smith here is number 970-261-0481. He said that the pipeline is not allowing NO ONE ACCESS just construction only. From the woodruff Ut side. They are plowing up to Curtis Creek loop and maybe more. They had NO signs posted even the the state snowcops didnt see signs until Sunday NIGHT after the plowed the road. Also, they blocked the trailed head so you cannot get around the gate, I had to basicaly almost go into the side creek to get out. So basically 2/3 of your access is been blocked until they think they are done. NOthing is posted on none of the the UDOT website either or Utah state parks. Start Calling Dave At ruby pipeline he wants to hear from you because he basically told my husband he doesn't care about the snowmobile access he is putting that pipeline in no matter how far he has to go

That sucks! It sounds like there is a major lack of communication between UDOT and the pipeline officials and if enough snowmobilers gripe then maybe they can start talking and work things out.
