Moment of Truth - BDX box or SLP Air inlet?

Lee, isn't the gasket a metal type material? Being brand new, you should be able to just peel it off and reuse it I would think. When they are used they get brittle, but not being brand new.....I was told to tune at about 44psi on the BD box. Curios what SLP tunes at. Let us know when you find out.

I don't remember if SLP request that you send your powervalves to be cut or not. I know rkt didn't. The powervalves don't completely open when adjusted to stock spec. If you tighten the cable 3/16" you can override this. If SLP cut your valves then it's been addressed. You also need to cut your exhaust gasket, as it is smaller diameter than the exhaust port. (this is something to address on a stock cyl as-well)[/QUOTE]

Thanks Aaron, I may do as you suggest and just try to gingerly peel the gaskets off and trim the inside as necessary.

Funny, I never noticed they needed to be trimmed. Everything looked fine.

I would just leave it alone then or maybe take a look and see if it looks like it is going to restrict anything, the gasket is metal and one would think slp would have sent you new one's if needed. Sealant wise i have been using the permatex orange spray a gasket no mess it works slick as **** and no more stupid tubes.
 
Maybe I can look in through the exhaust flanges and see or feel if there's a lip of gasket material that needs to be removed?

The exhaust gasket interferes with stock cyls as-well. I make my own gaskets and punch the correct size hole. Kelsey is who turned me onto this and sure enough that was the case.
I honestly wouldn't bother with it on a stock sled, but if you paid the money for the port job, why not alieve any interference.
 
Yes it's true. I can see the gaskets (and sealant in my case) extending WAY into the exhaust path. I will definately be taking them back off. I even took a picture of it so you can see.

I guess the way to remove the excess gasket material is to take the exhaust manifold off and bolt the gaskets to the exhaust mainifold and use a dremel like tool to grind off the excess material.

After seeing that picture, I would not even mess with it. That's so minute looking at the exhaust hole size in the jug being way smaller than that pipe size. I personally think you would be wasting your time. I like seeing the EGT probes hanging in there though. That's cool...........

Aaron, thanks for the input.

I can see the powervalve hanging down behind the gasket too. Does it look like it's extended down a normal amount?
 
The only time you have to grind the powervalves is if you went oversized on the cylinders. If you bore than you are running the risk of hitting the powervalves and they have to be shortened. If all SLP did was port, than you will be fine. I ended up having to do it on that Union Bay 900 I threw in my M7 a couple years ago. The curved end of a belt sanded works great for doing it!
