Moisture in chaincase of 08 Nytro

I have an 08 Nytro MTX with 4000 miles. Over the past 1000 miles, I have noticed that the oil in the chaincase gets "milky" about 200 - 300 miles after an oil change. I don't see any oil leaking out of the chaincase past the seal for the driveshaft, so I can't imagine how water could work its way in past the seal (or can it?). Is it possible that the rubber plug for venting the chaincase is causing this moisture problem? Or could it be the jackshaft seal?

UH-OH!

wow, ihope this isnt the start of yamaha motor break downs! seems to me, if you have water in your oil, you have a crack in your block, or at LEAST a bad head gasket. does the exhaust smell rich like antifreeze? you might check your coolant level, and if its waay low, hope its just a gasket.

still learning to read...

sorry, just re-read the post. my scenario would show watery oil in the crankcase. my bad. not sure about the chain case.

some times mines good for a season other times its milky again right after i change it ? i think its if ice builds up on the shaft seal and lets a little bit of snow dust in to the chain case . 4000 miles though you may wanna think about checking those main shaft bearings and seals .

Not sure how it gets in there but it always does. I change the chain case fluid 4-5x per season, it doesnt take much fluid and is easy to change. I typically run tranny fluid.

hey Chem
this topic has been discussed over on TY in a few posts. I think it was determined that it can get in through the breather as well as the lower seal on the drive axle. if the oil level drops over time I would look into replacing the lower seal. if it doesn't I would guess it is getting in through the breather. I don't think there is anything you can do except change the oil more frequently it is just a maintenance issue on these sleds

Changed the bearing and seals every year with no change in oil colour. The only bearing that was somewhat faulty over a season was the left side driveshaft bearing.

ya, that was kinda nasty. i guess i need to pay more attention to that. 4 to 5x a season seems extreme, i thought this was a yamatank here. i guess ill check on it after each ride n see what it do. but it definitely needs it for now. thanks for bringin up the info.

I guess misery loves company; in a strange way I feel comforted that others have this same problem (I didn't think of checking TY, DOH!!!).

I will change the fluid more frequently and keep a better watch on the appearance of the oil after each ride. Thanks!
