Modified Nytro Questions!

Looking to those Nytro riders who have been modifying there sleds. I am debating the always dreaded "Cost/Benefit Ratio" when looking at modifying a sled. I was hoping that some of you would be willing to give me an order of the most performance improving things you have done and prioritize them, with 1 being the most important.

Here is my intial thoughts:

1- Turbo
2- Track (162-174?)
3- New Front End
4- New Rear Suspension
5- New Tunnel vs. Extension

I look forward to all of your thoughts Thanks!!!

I would get the new rear suspension before the new front end, other than that your right on the money.

i would not change the tunnel. the stock tunnels are way stronger then any after market tunnel they may look pretty but when you have 3 cr tunnels hanging onyour wall that are craked and bent and twisted you will go to stock (just my input) modify your stock one lots of guys are doing it and it looks good and holds up

Not sure why you're cracking CR tunnels, but I completely disagree with this statement. (no, my tunnel is not a CR...I went with Power Addiction's new tunnel and LOVE it).

The stock Nytro tunnel has the weakest running boards ever produced (even with Better Boards added), and is a flexing, tin can POS.

Another plus to an aftermarket tunnel is relocating the cooling to the rear, which has 2 benefits: moving the cooling weight to the rear and off the nose, and it makes a good hand warmer!! :D

As to the original question:

1- Turbo / Super Charger
2- New Rear Suspension / Track (162-174?) If you do one, do the other.
3- New Front End
4- New Tunnel

Cost / benefit for MY riding style and desires:

1- Rear suspension
2- Track
3- Clutching
4- Front suspension/shocks
5- Turbo

I've done 1 and 2 this year, and I can't explain with all the words in the English language just how much difference it made over stock! Sure, the power of a turbo would be nice, but unlike last year when I was completely stock, I am no longer sitting at the bottom of the hill afraid to get stuck with the stock setup, instead I'm breaking trail and pulling people out when they get stuck....and I've only done #1 and 2, which don't even total HALF the cost of the turbo option.

You want best bang for the bucks, that's my opinion and experience. This is a totally different sled compared to stock. Not even in the same league.

I agree the stock track sucks bad!!! I was so impresses with the difference the track made, and I went with a 156, not 162. I did it after I did the turbo.

Thanks for all of the responses!!!

Hey guys, I forgot to mention that I ride in Cooke City predominantly with elevations from 9000'-11000'. I am a definite on the track, as I ride a 159" with 2.5" lugs now. Do any of you have a opinion inregards to going 162" vs. 174"? I also question the Turbo. I have researched them so far and I hear alot of positives about the Impulse system and its pump gas ability. My fear of going to race fuel and higher horse power is wearing out the engine faster. Any thoughts to running Impulse pump gas turbo vs. race fuel turbo?

Thanks guys,

You don't have to worry about boosted reliability. When setup properly you will still get thousands of miles on these stock motors.

And just so you know any turbo kit can run on pump gas if you are running meth injection. This will allow you to run an 87 octane gas at any boost level and also keeps temps down adding to reliability as well as the ability to add timing.

question is WHO is doing the work?

If i was gonna do a budget build. I would add a turbo, change the track & steering relocate. THAT's it... Stock skid can be made to work very well.

After that then you can waste your money on all the lightweight mods.

FWIW i did the whole shabang and don't regret it.

I rode in Revy last week for 5 days with another Nytro that had a pump gas MCX kit (with head shim) and a 174 (M-10 with the Racers Edge rear arm) and it worked VERY WELL. My 162 with TimerSled rear turns better/tighter, but the M-10 climbs better, so it depends on what you want to do.

I still believe for all around riding, the TS w/162 is the best combo, but if you want to build a climber, then the m-10/174 is the way to go.

Track Length!

Thanks for the advice. I was leaning towards a 162" with the timbersled suspension and a tunnel extension. Do you really nead to do a tunnel extension if I go to a 162"? By the way, I saw your T-Nytro. A beautiful sled. Love the clean lines and all black.

Thanks,

Boost guages?

I have been hearing about the Prologger all in one controller. Anyone with experience. Is it worth the extra money?

It's a great tool but not needed on some kits. I'd love to have one on my MCX but can't justify it just for button pressing fun :)

no need for tunnel ext. Last season i had a 162 on stock tunnel and it's fine

Steering relocate moves the steering colum forward. Search "wilchild" and you will find info on his kit.

TS Suspension is great bang for ya buck. IMO there isn't a huge performance increase. Great for weight loss!

I like to ride tight trees up and down hills, not into steep/long hillclimbing. That may give you an idea of my riding POV.

For a little over $6k you can get a MCX turbo and a 162x15x2.5 CE track. That's the best bang for the buck IMO... i'm sure others will disagree.

Thanks,

Check out the powder lites install thread. On the 5th page I posted pictures of an intake modification. I have the stock tunnel c/w timbersled and a 162 CE track. You can see how much tunnel I have left.

If I was to do everything all over I might upgrade the track and skid first then add a turbo. I just found the stock skid very uncontrolable with a boosted sled.
