MM700 Clutching ?

I have a '97 MM700 it has a serius bog on the bottom end. Plus I was running low on the R's. Titen'd up the secondary to 9 to get the R's up but the bog is still there. It runs AWESOME once past the bog. Could the bog be from to heavy of weights?

I am thinking about knocking out one of the two rivets in the weights and dropping the secondary back to 7.

My ? is which rivet should I knock out? The one in the tip or the one in the Middle of the weight?

Please Help, Thanks, Lt Rascal

Go to your local Yamaha dealer and get them to print off the sheet for clutching out of the service manual. There is probably 8 different setups for stock alone. If you have done upgrades like track you may even need a gear change. Make sure your carbs are clean, your pilots could be plugged causing bog as well. Check air screw position, and size of main jets. Did you just get the sled? If you did check it all over, the dealer will have jetting requirements as well.

Cheers

My 99 MM 700 is doing the same thing. I'll watch the replies for help as well. Thanks!

Set up for 9000 ft. or so.

I have run this carb. set up on my stock '98 mtn max for 4K miles and seems to Okay.

Carb. setup -
130 mains all across
52.5 pilots
needles all the way down
lower the floats just a touch from factory (can't remember the exact number in inches)
Piot screws - 1 1/2 to 1 5/8

Primary Clutch-
My son is running this clutch set up on his 2000 Mtn. Max.

Y-W-Y primary- good engagemet @ 4500 or so
8CR weights with both aluminum rivets

His secondary still needs some work, it has a "green" dot on it and set at 7, I think.

I think this set up would work really well together. You also need to check the roller and weight bushings in the primay for wear and replace if needed. If things are worn out nothing else matters. What about clutch alignment? Are the carbs. clean?

I would check first to make sure that the rollers are not worn out (my guess) especially if it used to run right. I have also seen broken primary springs do the same thing. I would not change the carbs until I was sure that clutches were ok. Also a worn out belt could do the same thing.

I have checked the weight and roller bushings. I put a new primary spring in it. The old one was accually for a 2000+ sled (longer spring) With the new spring it pulls great up the hills but I have no bottom end.

I was wondering about the belt. It has had the same belt on for 3 or 4 years.

Thanks for the ideas guys.
