Missing Grease Zerts??

So I picked up my 2014 XM Summit X on last Friday and today started pulling the skid out to install my E-Motion rear suspension. I get the skid pulled and up on my work bench and immediately notice its missing 2 of the grease zerts, one on each of the tubes where the axle slides through to bolt up to the tunnel (so the bottom side of both the top swing arms, front and back). There are holes where the zerts should be but they are not threaded. Is this the norm or what? every other sled I've ever owned or seen the rear skid has zerts in these locations. Did I get a Friday built sled or what?? Is anybody else noticing this?

Not too big of a deal, will just have to get a nut and weld it on (cant just thread a zert in since the axle that slides through would hit it) then thread a zert in but just seems a little odd to me...If anybody else is noticing this please let me know or if there is a reason its like this could somebody clue me in?

907to406, my 13 XM did not have zerks at those locations either. Maybe they left them open as a weep hole for water? But, I preferred grease and installed a zerk in each hole. I do not recall exactly how I did it, but I did not weld a nut. Rather I think I either shimmed the zerk with a small washer or I ground the end of the zerk until there was no contact with the shaft. I may have even ground the zerk enough that the ball and spring came out. But, I know in the end the zerk was secure and did not contact the shaft and I could grease the shaft and grease would exit around the bushings at the ends of the shaft/tube. As I recall the shaft is smaller in diameter than the outer bushing and allows for some intrusion from the zerk. I think I used a short 1/4 28 zerk and may have tapped the hole first or the zerk threaded securely into the hole. I hope this helps..

I had my 2012 suspension out to install T motion and mine is the same way, holes and no zerks.

Dumb question, but maybe those holes are there to allow a punch or pin to lock the threaded axle into place for removal?
Absolutely maddening when they spin when trying to remove the bolts

Haha funny you say that, I was going nuts just trying to remove the bolts! By far took me longer in this sled than any other sled I've owned or worked on. Not a bad idea and would save some time and frustration.

Would be smart right?
In order to remove the bolts, you really need 2 impact drivers and have to battle back n forth to get the beasts out.

My plan is to get the skid set up right the first time and hopefully never have to remove it again, we'll see how that works out for me...

I put a Tmo kit in 154 XP rails set back to the 159length in my 04` Rev Summit and I also have the holes described but no threads and can`t get any zert to thread in, my Tmo kit came with 2 extra zerts but they won`t go in those upper tubes where I think they should be.

I have also tried self tapping zerts maybe I need a different size but not to many to choose from and the metal is to hard and can`t get anything to thread in there, I like previously mentioned might pull the skid out and tap the holes or weld a nut to them that a zert will thead into

Good Luck, Wildcard

they look like drain holes to me too. but id you want a grease zert in there why not get a couple pop in zerts? no threads. you just press them in.

there is no need for grease zerks. as mentioned they have bushings, you are just gumming it up for no reason. the aluminum rod that the grease would get onto doesn't spin with suspension movement....you know you have a good sled when you have to make up imaginary problems:face-icon-small-win
