Mishap with sled deck

How many of you have had the same experience i just had buy having your sled come of the side of the deck while loading.:(:(

Never come off the side, but I did have one with a really lame design and the ramp just about tipped over with the sled half way up it! I bailed and shoved as hard as I could the other way and the sled and ramp righted themselves as I layed on the ground waiting for it all to fall on top of me. I promptly bought a new Silverlake Deck and LOVE the way Mike built it.

I have seen it happen once, how bad is the sled:face-icon-small-dis

Just bent the bars but my legs are bruised pretty good ! I blame it on the G%DD&mn simmons ski's they don' ride inside the rails of the ramp very well.
I knew there was a reason why I bought a 1500lb atv whench a couple of months ago !

What kind of deck is it? I've loaded on many different decks and they have all been easy to load with Simmons. Glad you didn't get too hurt. I've been waiting for something like that to happen.

I saw a guy a couple of years ago do it because his truck was parked at an angle, as his sled went up and onto the deck it slid off the side. He got lucky because the belly of the sled caught the edge of the deck.

do you have runners in the ramp? i cut up a box liner and used it and never had any prob yet..and i have a 9.5 ft rampwith lift and 35s.. mine was putting the deck on pushed it to hard ,, took out the back window,,,$1200window:eek:

sled deck goof

My buddy and I were in a hurry one day... he had put the deck in the back of the truck, threw his gear in back and shut the tail gate.

I come along and take the truck & deck with his sled only on it to the left side. I was hurring to my house about 2 miles away to load mine while he finished some task at his house. I pulled away turing right into traffic on the street and the deck FLIPPED over in the back shearing the ski clamp and dumping his rev in the road on its side and creasing the crap out of the side of his Chevy. To add insult, I had to swearve to the side of the road to get out of traffic all the while DRAGGING his REV by the strap that had been holding the a$$ end down.

Conclusion: do not forget to lock down the deck in the truckwhen you put it in especially if you only have 1 sled on the deck all the way to one side!

Carnage: dented truck and and road rash all down the side of the rev

It's a Bulldog sled deck I love the deck ie: the sides slide out but the ramp is something to be desired it's nice in the aspect that it fold's into itself but the ramp in my opinion is too narrow my 03 vertical escape stock ski stance and the simmon's ski's you rubbing the inside edge's of the ramp. I'm goimg to mount my wench i bought on the "head ache" rack so as not to have this problem anymore. Then i'm going to build a new ramp to my spec's.

I've haven't come off the side yet, had the ramp fall once and ended up in the tailgate. Watched a guy in the Allen creek parking lot load one day he had way to much speed and landed on the roof of his truck that was fun watching curse and pull the sled back

I did the same thing on my Bulldog deck, managed to keep it on though.

Bulldog decks are chitty decks for many reasons.

anyway, we should use winches to load.

winch pics anyone?

ski guides and a good railing are a must....I saw a guy loading a home made jobby a year ago and had no rails on the ramp or deck and same scenario.....ended up off the side! Cut up an old bed liner and rivet them to the ramp and that will keep you on target.

Rt

Buddies dad dump one off the side and on top of bending up his sled he lands it on some guys truck next to him in the parking area. I dangled the ski a couple of times my first season with the deck but never lost it. I found that making sure that I park nice and level really helps.

My ramp only has puckboard on it and i've had no problems. Only a 8ft ramp and small beavertail and the deck is about 5'10" up. Haven't loaded to many times but my 162" just crawls up it like nothing, i've never had a mishap because I am way to anal about my truck if my sled ever damaged it I would sell the SOB! :D But really, I find a lot of guys take this huge run at it. When I loaded the first time I started with the skis at the bottom of the ramp, and just took a bit farther back until it loaded ok.

I honestly don't understand how people end up on truck roofs, you have to be going DANG fast. I mean one the guy was loading from the trailer to deck, he could of stopped in the middle of the frigging ramp  If you aren't comfortable loading on the sides, IMO just load the first up the middle and pull it over to know how you need to take it.

I think the worst part is loading other peoples sleds that you've never been on, because I don't want anyone else loading my deck because if you've never done it it's not hard to screw up.

Don't feel to bad we all have our days :)
