Military service

Hey guys, I know there are a lot of veterans on here, and its really neat to read about everyone's MOS and branch. So in this thread, we should all post our service record, MOS, branch, years of service and such. I really enjoy hearing about it and I'm sure more people on here do too.

I'll go first. I'm with the ROTC in school here, but I'm thinking of joining the National Guard as a 21B, because I love engineering. I haven't served yet, but I'm planning on signing up next September to take full advantage of the SMP (simultaneous membership program) that the guard has with the ROTC. So, there I went, your turn. :beer;:)

Good post!

Air Force 2002-present

1N171 - Imagery Analysis.

I was a sensor operator on the Predator UAV from 03 to 06 at Nellis AFB and Creech AFB. I have just under 1000 hours in the right seat running the sensors and doing general co-pilot stuff. Supported some really cool operations to include capturing Saddam, killing zarquawi (however you spell it), and been on the hunt for the ace of spades a few times as well. During that time I deployed to Balad Iraq to launch and recover the predators. This is because they were being flown from the states via sat, but launched and landed by us in country due to the delay involved with operating from 6k miles away.
Next I was stationed at Beale AFB exploiting high altitude imagery from the U2, Predator, and Global hawk...ran a crew of 25 "kids". Nothing there really stands out other than the cows on base, and the occasional operation we'd support. Lots of looking for IEDs and the like.
Now I'm in Hawaii working under the Air Force Research Lab doing R&D with the DoD's largest telescope, tracking near earth orbit objects in space. Running telescopes and looking at space objects is a far cry from exploiting normal imagery but I have learned a TON about optics, how the electromagnetic spectrium works and how we compensate for looking through the atmosphere.

Now I'm just looking forward to getting off island and back to some snow! 7 years down, and 13+ to go!

I have been in for a total of 10 years....Army, still a reservist. I began as a 91B (MP, imagine that eh! haha)....then they changed that to a 31B. I just transferred to a 92F (petroleum stuff - boring! haha) to take an officer slot.

Great thread luvtoride! I would support anyone joining. I can't say I have always enjoyed it, but is it worth it? ...yes.

Any idea why they changed the designation?

I was a ISEA Navy Government Employee. It was civilian Navy support. I was engineering on the MK45 5"/54 naval gun mount, and some advanced gun stuff. I spent time on Navy ships about every month.

Not a real military commitment like you guys. But, when you got the call, you might be going anywhere they need you. I was the guy supporting the hardware. I ultimately reported to a Navy Captain. It was interesting, frustrating, boring, and exciting. Did about 6 years, couldn't take it anymore, when they BRAC my base.

But we were unable to get a picture of us together for our Dad.

I have not served, but my son is enlisted in the Army. 19th Infantry 2nd Battalion C company. Currently stationed in Germany. Once his training is completed there he will likely be serving in Afghanistan.

I have not served. I would, however, like to thank all that have. If not for you, Americans would not enjoy the lives we live today. Freedom is the greatest gift of all, and I can't thank you enough for giving it to us.

They told us a while back, but I don't remember.
