Megacab or not

The Dodge faithful that I know that have had a MC and a new gen crew cab wouldn't go back to a MC, most of the MC owners that I know have had cab to trailer interference issues. The statement the Allison is the best trans is very debatable, its a great trans but the Ford trans will hold more power stock. I have a Spartan tuned 6.4 with the 250HP tune and tow 15-20K for work almost everyday. We took a 2011 Duramax to the Horns a week ago that had full exhaust and the H&S tow tune in it and it pulled great with decent mileage, I prefer my Fords interior, more room, more refined.

Mega cab is awesome but I had to have a long box and couldn't see dumping 5k for a conversion. I was a Ford King Ranch Guy and then I made the mistake of driving a longhorn. Ya needless to say I bought a fully load 2012 Dodge longhorn 3500 s/w. Best stock pickup I've ever owned. My fords have been turds stock and this interior in this is sick as hell. Riding in my buddies chipped 2011 is a riot but I just can't make that jump yet for added power. Pepper let us know what u buy.....

Will do man. Thanks for all the input it's been great. I still have a month or so till I'll pull the trigger but as of now (and even before I started the thread) I'm leaning towards a 2012 MC. I'll post pic for sure once I get it.

I have a mega cab. Do not get one! I have to drive every trip because I have the best truck to travel in. The room in the cab is fantastic. The cummins motor is super smooth and has great torque. I'm thinking about getting a extended cab so I never have to drive anymore.

I have a 10 Mega Cab. I came from a 04 Quad Cab with a 5.9L CTD. The truck rides better and is quieter at all speeds. Interior fit and finish is also quite a bit better.

The only beef I have with my Mega is rear visibility. The rear pillars are far enough back that they do give some blind spots on the corners. My truck didn't come with the rear backup camera factory, but I feel it's a must with a truck of this size.

I have had them all and I currently have a 2010 CCSB Laramie 6.7 Auto on 37's. It has a sled deck, bed full of gear and I tow a 5K lb trailer with it with zero tranny problems. I run a 150hp tune when it is empty and a 60hp tune when loaded and towing. I had the truck back to the dealer for a faulty trans filter the week that I bought it and haven't been back since. It is fully deleted so most of the problematic issues are sitting on a shelf now.

The 2010+ Dodge Crew Cab's are pretty big inside so a Mega may not be necessary for most. The 2010+ trucks also have a tighter turning radius due to some front knuckle changes. They also upgraded the front axle shaft/ u-joints to 1550WJ series which are freakin' huge. They still use a pretty low quality u-joint so upgrading to a set of Spicers should be on the list when the stockers start to make some noise. At the same time throw in a set of Carli or Dynatrac ball joints and most of your front end issues will be solved.

I find parking the 2010 CC alot easier than my 07 Mega due to the shorter wheelbase and tighter turning. The seats in my 2010 Laramie are definitely nicer than those in my 07 SLT but I didn't mind thise either. I personally don't like those really soft seats as my legs will go numb after a while in a truck with them. It seems that the softer seats in the Chevy's and Fords are nice for lightweights but don't hold up very well. All of the SuperDuty's and Chevy HD's that I looked at had pretty sagged out seats after a few years. I also have an 08 F350 and the soft seats are already starting to break down at 30K whereas the ones in my Dodge look/feel brand new. I rarely take the Ford on long trips almost solely because of the seats.

I am not sure about this whole broken door handle thing and I must have missed these threads over on Cummins Forum. I have had a slew of Dodges starting all the way back in 98 and have never had an issue and we get alot of ice here. Just this weekend I was up at the cabin ridin and when I got up on Sunday everything was frozen solid. I couldn't get any of the trailer doors open, my tailgate was frozen shut, neither of the AMP steps would deploy, but I was able to open the truck doors with alot of yanking.

As far as transmisions go the newer Fords hold the most power hands down. My F350 puts down 575+hp with a stock trans. I run 37's on that truck too and she is holding up pretty good. The pre 07.5 Dodge 4spd trans (48re) doesn't like alot of added power but is one of the easiest to build for more power. The 07.5+ 6spd auto (68rfe) is alot nicer and is holding up to 37's and a 150hp tune on my Dodge but if I hot rod it like I do my Ford I am sure that it won't go the distance. The Allison is a nice trans if you keep the truck stock or near stock but if you have a heavy foot and plan to add big tires and/or more power you will find out how expensive they are to build up.

Anyhow,
Sorry for the long post but dealing with the pitfalls of these Diesel trucks is what I do.

Geez to all the ones who say Dodges don't hold up I call BS! I have driven Dodge pickups since 1986. I will list all the ones I have owned since 1986.
1 - 1986 Dodge 1500 4x4 new
1 - 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4 new
1 - 2010 Dodge 3500 4x4 new, may be the last one I need.

My dad routinely ran all his Dodge 450K to 500k miles with little to no problems, not even a broken door handle.

Now back to the OP. The 2010 and up Mega is on the same frame as the longbox crewcab. I have the shortbox crewcab and it has all the room I need. It all depends on what you want. One of the good things about the 4th gen Dodge is there is no horse piss to buy to pour in it. That is changing for the 13 model year, they will require horse piss.

I've got a 10 megacab. if i was doing it over i'd go for the crewcab. extra cab and length isn't worth it. i'd rather have a longer box.
