mcx 180 questions

I ordered an mcx 180 nytro kit a few days ago and am trying to get things together before it gets here. I did not order weights with the kit because of the posts saying the mcx weights could be improved on. I have been reading posts about the 8bu-00 weights and was wondering if that is the way to go or the weights to start with? Should I stick with the stock helix?

Quite a few ways to skin the cat. The MCX weights are meant to work very well in a wide variety of conditions but do leave a little on the table if you set the sled up for a specific set of conditions. I do believe they are a little heavy and sluggish for mountain use but work great in trail and lake running scenarios. The 8BU's are extremely responsive and shift really hard for such a light weight. Start with 8BU's fully loaded with steel rivets. If you experience over revving you can either go down to 14.5 mm rollers or put the heavy MPI brass rivets in. I also prefer a blue white blue or blue silver blue primary. There are probably 20 different ways to get a similar result but in my experience this set up works great.

Depends what track legnth. I go up to a 19 tooth with the 240 and 270 hp kits but leave the 18t in with the 180's on the MTX 162s. I go up one tooth with all kits any shorter then that. Turbo's love load so the extra tooth usually doesn't phase them down low but will pull stronger on the top end. Hope this helps !

Any thoughts on the secondary? I have a shockwave helix at 43 degrees with an AC green spring. I can't always pull 8900 rpm and never hit the rev limiter even on the trail. I am think about going back to the stock 39 degree helix and spring.

Primary is 8BU weights loaded, green white green spring, 14.5mm rollers.

Thanks

Sanfu,,,,why do you want to hit 9000 or more? the Power band is between 8500 and 9000. Sounds like your right there???

Ya I didn't explain myself very well. In deeper snow I will only be pullining 8400-8500 rpm. I'd like to be 8800-8900.

I have a feeling it's that shockwave thats causing the problems....Contact a Michelle ,,,her screen name is Free Agnet and she kows eveyone that can help. Trust me. I have a feeling your going to have to have your secondary have some machine work done on it. It's not allowing your seconday to open all the way. I'm going to try this setup at a diff time just not now. I hear it pulls great. If you cant reach her let me know...PM me..Your amost there =)

The "Three Amigos" have been experiencing blown belts with previous setups and this season will be trying Vernon Yamaha's setup for their kits, here's their setup:
1) Primary Spring should be BWB.
2) Primary Weights should be 48 gms part # is 8BU
3) Primary rollers should be the 14.5 MM.
4) Secondary Spring should be an EPI Purple which is the same as the Cat Green and the Alpine Turbo spring. He said they are all the same. Lots of tension and longer stiffer spring.
5) Secondary Helix should be a 51 degree helix. He does an exchange for $60 and your old Helix you get a new 51 degree helix.

They say they have had zero issues with belts with this setup so we're going to give it a whirl! Sherm

Keep us in the loop on how this goes. The steep helix is exactly opposite of how I was thinking of going. I have a shockwave set at 43 deg and can't seem to pull the desired RPMs I have the same weights and rollers but I am using a stiffer GWG spring in the primary.

ya 51 doesnt seem right, we use 47s on our 270 MCX nytros. Only sled that seems to be able to pull a 51 is a apex....

We'll see what happens, maybe they don't pull any rev's and thats why the belts don't blow! We'll let you know what happens.....Sherm
