McCall

We went out Thursday too, rode 65 miles and had a ball and some of the pictures I tried to take are enclosed. Cannot keep up with the ones Powder Girl takes thou. Note the lack of tracks......even in that bowl.
Spud. (probably cannot even keep up with her riding.)

Hi Spud,

What happened to you and Ted, it was kinda lonely on Friday, just 4 of us. We found lots more untracked snow & a couple more rocks-need more snow. Best 2 days of riding this year, but we couldn't do 3 days in a row. Looked like Sat was going to be another great day but too many peeps! Saw a total of 8 sleds in two days and they were close to the trail head.
Watch out PG, Spud can ride with the best of them. We had a good first ride with Spud and everyone commented on what a great guy:beer;

Gee, thanks Ron,

Hi, you guys were the best riders I have ever seen (for your age) and really challenging to keep up with, because of my age. Ted warned me about that and he was right. We went out today, Saturday to Paddy Flats and the back way to Gold Fork Hot Springs. Good ride but not anyway near the one with you guys. That bowl picture is to the west of the valley?? Spud.

Ohh you guys have nuttn to worry about... I ride like a girl! ;)

311hemi - I found a nice padded case for it that fits nicely in the bottom of my pack. My pack also has a isolated padded camera pouch on the top just perfect for my video camera. I am just using some $200 lense right now - never did get back to the camera store to pick up a nice one but I do want a image stablizing lense and would be nice to have more zoom but then I dont really want the extra bulk and weight of one.

I havent checked this thread for awhile, but any of you can ride with us anytime. Good people like you guys are hard to come by. Just got back from a great weekend of riding in the Snowies, now its February and March is getting close. I have some more specific questions about McCall.

First off, whats the elevation? From what I could tell, looks like 6-9000 ft? We ride 9-11000 usually, so we will have to re-jet the polaris', but the Doo's should be fine.

Next, there is a $35 non resident trail fee right? Any other fee's or anything that we should know about?

How safe are your sleds and stuff in town or at the parking lots? Is there a lot of theft there, or just the normal stuff?

Noise levels at parking lots? I see there is something about a noise level by Brundage, but what about lots like FW? One sled with us is insanely loud, so I figured I should check up on this.

Thanks for all the great info. I will probably have some more questions later. Our route out there looks like Laramie to Salt Lake to Boise and up. Sound about right?

Once again thanks.

Conditions???

How is the snow around McCall? Coming over next week and would like to have something to look forward too!:beer;

Husker, Dirtboss.

We ride from about 5500 and usually top out at 7500. The fee for the sticker is about $32 and most of it goes right back into the program for the groomers. We have a very well run grooming program around McCall with about 500 miles of groomed trails and some of the high use runs are even hit twice or even three times a week. No other fees and I don't know of any problems with noise other than the noisy guns going off shooting the loud machines. (just kidding) and you are welcome to shoot anyone stealing in the parking lots. Again, haven't heard of any big loses. We have two gas stations pumping non-ethanol gas around two bucks/gal. for 91 octane. The local Super Eight motel offers a discount to snowmobilers. For groomer report go to http://idahosnowbiz.com/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=923624&module_id=5290. and for more information on local services, including maps. http://www.snowmobilemccall.net/

The accu-weather report says we are going to get some snow starting Friday the 6th. and then another storm following with a lot of snow from the 9th thru the 16th, and we all hope more to come. :face-icon-small-dis

Was in McCall this morning. Man what a zooooooooooo.

Traffic was backed up pass the airport, to get in. Luckily I was headed out by then.

There's a bypass, turn left right after the airport, and follow it around. Dumps you out by the start of Warren Wagon Road. Great way to avoid some of the crowds.

I don't know how to spell his name, but I was told it was really pronounced "LowLee", but others called him "Loylee". He didn't seem to care.

One of the way early mod guys. Famous for chain case roll kits for polaris, and put a LOT of rotax engines into polaris chassis. I never saw him mad, I never saw him say bad words.

I did see him when he was sick with Liver cancer, and held up to the end with a cheerful smile and friendly greeting for most everyone.

A quality guy. His shop was outside of Parma Idaho, in some little town I forget the name of. His son Todd is also a Heck of a snowmobiler.

my dad met him and he made my dad a rotax powered polaris. man it had chamber pipes. it was loud and it was the first sled i ever rode. i was six years old.

Noise levels at parking lots? I see there is something about a noise level by Brundage, but what about lots like FW? One sled with us is insanely loud, so I figured I should check up on this. I have only heard of it by the Brundage lot like you stated. If it is really loud I do not know if it will go or not. I know when I had tripples on a 944 (read loud) I just did not blip the throttle or anything in the lot and creeped out. That worked for me anyway.Worst case you go in another way that they do not monitor as much.

I think that the deal is being a friendly neighbor with the really tough to get along with Brundage ski area from the upper parking lot because you have to trail past. So the FS is generally in that lot testing sleds at idle. I've never been tested or approached at any other lot in the entire western part of Idaho. You can access all the same riding zones from francis wallace just a little longer trail ride up to the ridge top and then you can cross country down to the lake and start your traditional loop. Park on the road and limp out rather then risking parking down in the mess and you'll have no trouble.

i didn't get hassled last year but the year before i had to get towed to the trail head, the FS homo's wouldn't let me run my sled in the parking lot because it didn't meet the decibel level'
