McCall

Well, I dont know the owners at Burgdorf but I cant stand the idea of getting into that pool and it's not even their fault! I still have this horendous vision of this big blond gal piggy backing her big husband while popping pimples on his back then splashing them away in the water! Why would you do something like that in public?????? At least we cant see the little kids urinating in the pool!

That said - yes, F-bomb's right about not crossing your tracks! McCall has soooo much off trail riding that I imagine it takes decades to really get to know your way around comfortably! This area is definitly a boondockers paradise but definitely great for all levels of riders.

Brundage is only reporting 1" overnight. I thought they were going to get hit alot harder. Any locals up there have any info on what's going on up there? I'm heading up there Friday. Hope they get hit hard today and tonight.
Thanks

Hey wade

Wade, don't give away all our secret places to ride. Just kidding. If you guys from Washington want some other (secret) places to ride, go to the Donnelly shed, by driving west of Donnelly to the mtn base, just across the 3rd. bridge, turn right to the shed, unload there, (H) go up the hill to No Business Pass, (G) to (F) right back up the hill to Four Corners (E) left there. Go, I would guess, 3 miles, (stay left at an intersection) till you are past a logged off area on the left and back just into the woods and at a creek crossing, a sign on the left "Deseret Cabin." if not covered with snow. Left there for about 2+ miles on ungroomed trail and follow the beaten path up the hill into "Council Mtn Bowls" Expert area. PM me if you want more secret places to ride. Spud.

Wade, I got db of -104 at the Wallace lot on my Verizon Motorola. Is that strong enough to run a cell phone camera with an antenna and/or amp??? I was going to ask Verizon in Boise when I come down next week, unless you know what to do now???

See this is why I love you guys man... 2 things.

1st BOMB is right about the customer service the last few years at B-dorf. What's that about?! I know we won't be going back again and that sucked until I read the zip popping story... grooooooossss! Why would you do that period, let alone in public. Whatever you do, don't smoke or drink (I don't do either) when you're there. I personally watched the lady kick a guy out and chewed him up even after he appologized for not knowing the rules. "Well next time you'll know better. We don't like or allow that here!" total biiioootch!

and B (ha) Good on ya WADE. that whole "don't tell the secret area" thing just pisses me off! guys like that need to get over themselves. The sport includes the pleasure of SHARING the experience of the areas you love to ride. Helllooooo. If you're afraid someone is going to ride out your whole area you need to expand your ride zone a bit. McCall (and west mtn and trinities) are so vast you could do it everday and not cover it all in a winter completely. IMO there's plenty to go around so tell someone or better yet, take someone to your favorite spots. :beer;:beer; A picture is good but never really captures the amazing view from on top of some our mtns... you just have to be there to understand it and thats why I love taking friends there.

i'm headed up soon to cut up my share so don't "ride it out" before I get there. hahaha

too late we just rode out the last inch today. O wait we will expand to more of the unsee stuff.

hauler, you missed my message completely

calling a place a secret spikes interest. That is what I was doing, not deriding Wade for telling of good places to ride. Did you notice that I said "just kidding" right after the first sentence and then told of a great "secret" spot to ride myself. I have done lots and lots of things in the last few years to promote the sport in our area, including taking out of staters on tag along trips. They come now to ride with us every year.

I find new areas to ride every year too after riding here for 25 years now. The area is almost inexhaustable for new adventures, as you state. Have you ever riden up on Jug Handle or Paddy Flats or taken the back way to Gold Fork hot springs or even over on Smith Mtn past Bear/Cuprum. I want to ride on Lava ridge this spring too to see what the bowls are like there, not yet, too soft and slidy. Want to come???? Please reread my post.

Oh, and I agree with everyone about Burgdorf, too bad it isn't under better management. Went out there once about 20 years ago with 3 other guys and got in the pool and there were 3 women in it "au natural". Never forgot that one.

Hey SPUD I'm sorry that seemed like I was directing that at you. I know you do TONS of stuff for McCall area sledding and I really think that's great. I was actually refering to some of the other stuff I've been reading on SW and just kinda "spewed" abit. Definately didn't mean to affend you or imply that you arean't a great ambassador for our sport. McCall is my home town and I love the area... always have even if though I'm not able to still live there.

I owe ya a beer or your favorite beverage when I get there and it would be great if you could ride with us when we're up. PM sent.

I knew exactly what you meant idaspud, somehow missed this thread for a few days.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the McCall area to tell many secrets. But, nothing helps a snowmobile area, like snowmobile friendly people. There may be a few people in McCall that don't like snowmobiles, but most locals, seem to be either skiers, or skiers on snowmobile, or ex skiers that snowmobile now. So, it's a snowmobile friendly town, you won't be outnumbered.

A few of us are headed your way next weekend (16-18th) from the rainy land of Washington. How are the areas around McCall looking? Do you guys have enough snow to make the trip over worth it?

More interested in the boondocking/tree riding/hill type areas.

Thanks in advance for any information.

ummm, mccall always has plenty of snow after the first of the year.

secesh summit has 6 feet or so, and it is the lowest pass in the area.

all of brundage you can boondock.

So, plenty of snow, trails are all groomed, well worth the trip.

Just got back from a McCall weekend. Awesome trip. Girls both hit creeks on Saturday and that ended the weekend but it was still an out of sight time. We stayed at the Super 8 and mentioned snowest. They gave us a killer deal. Ate at the mill and played at beside the mill. Woke up to new snow this morning but the girls were still feeling it from yesterday so we headed home. A big THANK YOU to the groomers. The trails were butta compared to some others in southern Idaho. Also the FW lot is the easiest lot that I have ever used. We will definately be back soon.
By the way is it just me or is McCall empty? We went to the Pancake House this morning and were seated the minute we walked in. Never had that happen before.

eyeless you should have snuck away a day early last week, friday was that same snow but sunshine!

Ditto on the grooming, trails were excellent I don't know how you folks do it.

I have always had fun at Mccall, what a great place.

I like that you guys are mentioning specific spots with directions. It will only help business in the area. Thanks.

secret spots

Wheresthesnow, I don't have a business here in McCall but I just enjoy pointing out our great riding to all of you. We have so much country that you can go from flat groomed trails to the absolutely vertical cliffs (if you want to) and not see anyone else. We were out last Friday too and the sun was shining for the first time in a while and the snow was great, had to be a 9.95 out of 10.0, and just got stuck a few times and saw 5 other riders.

Our grooming program is in excellent hands this last couple of years. We have great operators out there at night in some pretty bad conditions, working 14 hr shifts in real white-outs the last few weeks, keeping the trails in good shape during the Holidays extra traffic. Many thanks to them.

If you would like more directions or hints on where to go and play, PM me with what you want and how you ride and I will try to point you in the right direction with the help of the maps on the web sites. Spud

sorry about the "secret spot" thing, Hauler. (inside joke)
