mccall this weekend?

Rode West Mtn Saturday and Sunday.....snow was the deepest we have rode all year. We stayed in the trees to avoid most of the avalanche danger, saw a few slides.

Advisory Summary-3/29/14

Forecaster: Bingaman

The Avalanche Hazard across the West Central Mountains today is CONSIDERABLE on all slopes approaching 35 degrees with a 12-24 inch soft slab resting on a slick crust. Heavy snowfall, rising temperatures and strong winds out of the S and SW have created several density changes within the new snow making it possible to trigger all or part of this slab on multiple aspects.

The Hazard on North East and North facing slopes will be HIGH where a combination of heavy snow, wind loading and buried weak layers make it likely we will see natural avalanches today and tomorrow. Human triggered avalanches are very likely on these slopes. Additionally, winds have been sculpting yesterday’s warmer snow into a stout but touchy hard wind slab on many of the windward aspects. Avoid travelling on these slabs on slopes steep enough to slide today and through the next few days.

Carefully evaluate your terrain choices before committing to them. Use safe riding and skiing protocol and keep your eyes on your partners.

We rode towards burgdorf yesterday and in the afternoon the snow was wet, heavy and sticky. Once you went down more than a foot or two and broke through the crust there was very little traction and was very easy to get stuck.
