Mcall avy???? any more news

This is true......I know some of the riders but at this point I don't have any for sure details.

Their was a group of 6, 3 got caught in the avy, and 2 died. I was out riding today and stopped to ask a guy if he needed help starting his sled, casue his group had just took off with out him. Then he asked me if I was part of the search and rescue crew with him. So at that point I knew something had gone wrong. Then we got back to the truck and their was a couple sheriffs, and they told me what had happened. It happened out past Hazard Lakes, a long ways from the parking lot. I feel very sorry for the ones involved and their loved ones. RIP :face-icon-small-sad

So sorry to hear about this!!!! We've been hit hard with Mtn snows here lately and that layer between 2 and 3 ft down never has bonded. Has been a weak layer all year. Please be safe and all my condolences to the familys.:brokenheart:

update.

they were friends of mine. they pulled into and area and shutdown. the hillside broke about 100yards above them. the two that were killed couldn't get their sleds started in time. it took three hours to dig down through the 12 ft. of snow that buried them. this is awefull the one guys 13 year older daughter and the others girlfriend was there:brokenheart:.... Jim the one that was buried to his neck got himself out.

That's terrible. I am so sorry for them. We all need to be careful right now. Avalanche danger is the worst I have seen in the Northwest in years.

Spooner I am sorry for the loss of your friends. Please express our condolences to the families of the victims. Thanks for the updated information during this trying time. Hang in there.

This is the report from the Payette Avalanche Center about the accident :

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families of two snowmobilers killed in an avalanche yesterday near Hard Creek, north of McCall. We don't have all the details of the accident yet, but what we can tell you is that the slide broke big for the terrain that it was in. The Crown or top fracture of the avalanche, near 7200ft, broke between 2 and 4 feet deep, was 200 to 300 yards wide, ran a vertical fall of approximately 350ft, deposited in a terrain trap, wide gully, about 130 yards wide and 15+ feet deep. Multiple snowmobilers were on a lower angle slope, below steep terrain, trying to free stuck machines. Multiple people were caught in the slide, the two victims were not wearing transceivers. The terrain that this slide occurred in was rather typical of our mid elevation area's with a large bouldery ground layer and fairly to sparsely treed northwest facing slope.

Current Avalanche rating is: Considerable

avy victim

Matt was such a good dude that loved our sport so much.he was not a person that would ever talk bad about anyone.was so proud of his xp and even more proud of his daughter's passion for the sport.I don't know him personally very well but have ran into and rode with him several times up on the hill. Our prayers are going to the family and friends.so tragic.sickening.

They will be missed! I never have offically rode with the two that died but the the rest of the group I know very well and ride with frequently. One of the guy's parents literally lives next door. This has hit our little community very hard. Our thought are with their families. Please everyone be safe.

Rob

I posted this picture on one of the other sites. Thought I would post it here also just for reference of the area. I also understand (second hand) there were in or around Lloyds lake. Don't know for sure.
