March Madness Snowfall

March/April Madness Snowfall

Pretty quiet around here these days! Thought i'd post a quick weather update from the local weather guru. Should be a good next few days with deep over the head blower snow!

(March 31st 8:00am update)
"It has been snowing now for over 36 hours on the mountains and it will keep going all day. Most resorts picking up 2 or more feet in the past 24 hours bringing snow totals between 2-3 feet so far from this storm for all resorts. Here at the house on the North Shore of the lake we have picked up 14 inches so far from the storm. With the storms the end of last week the resorts have picked up 3-4 feet over the past 7 days."

On and off snow showers through the week and then...

"Another break Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning before the next storm moves in Sunday afternoon and evening. Models are back to the slower solution which makes this a pretty good storm. Right now 1-2 feet looks to be a good bet by Monday. If the storm speeds up more like a foot, and if it slows more could be more than 2 feet in spots. All told it looks like most resorts will be closing in on a week total of 5 feet by Monday."

April Storms lining up

Once agian....from our friend at tahoeweatherdiscussion.com

"This morning the next storm has already pushed in to Northwestern CA. Snow will begin to fall on the West side of the crest by early afternoon and should begin to push over into Tahoe by this evening. The dynamics of this storm will promote a lot of shadowing by the crest. Looking for around 2-4 inches at lake level with 3-6 inches above 7000 ft. and 6-9 inches on the crest. The NWS in Sacramento has put up a winter storm warning for 1-2 feet on the Western side of the crest. First, I don’t see where they are getting that much precip from, but any amounts like that would not affect us and would stay on the Western side of the crest."

"Snow showers will end Saturday morning for a brief break Saturday afternoon. A weak wave of moisture may spark off snow showers Saturday night just ahead of the next big storm that moves in Sunday morning. Some models have the snow starting Sunday morning and other have it holding off until the afternoon with a slower solution. The GFS is the faster model and shows only and inch of liquid which would mean around a foot of snow. The rest of the models are going with the slower solution bringing 2 inches of liquid and 2 feet or more of snow. Right now I’m going with a foot at lake level with 2 feet on the mountains and over 2 feet on the crest."

Sounds Good to me!

Oh, yay! We're gonna try to hit it tomorrow afternoon for a quickie - hopefully it will clear up enough to hit the fresh pow, since we can't go again until next weekend!

Thanks for the report - excited to see what the Lakes Basins got!

Seeing that you are gettin your info from other sources i wont bash on you, cause its the weather guru's who are really the idiots! But i do thank you for updating the local snow totals from what you actually see! I saw thursday the news was reporting 28" at Soda Springs, and that fridays storm according to accuweather was predicted to bring 15.1" (yeah right!) So we were excited to see what really happened. I was up yesterday at DLE, wasnt more than 6-8" from the staging area, the snow was crusted over with powder below, it was weird snow, i attribute it to the high winds during the storms. The only place their was 2-3 feet was in drifts and the trees, nowhere near the totals they claim! I think the news puts up higher numbers to draw the skiers. Must be nice to have a job you never have to be right at!
