Making a 600 Dragon 121 work in the Snowys ?

I am going to go to ride in the mountains for the first time in a 10 days. Going with some guys that have been there before. We all have short tracks. They have Ski-doo 800's, I have a 09 600 Dragon. They tell me to get it clutched for 8000-10000 ft. My local dealer says he can do that for me. They say they go down a couple of teeth on the top chaincase sprocket on their Ski-doos. Any idea on how many teeth I should go down on my Polaris without messing with the chain length? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Your dealer should have all of the gearing and pitch combinations. It will tell you what combos you need and such. You will probably only get away with a tooth or 2 without a chain. One important question....were your buds doing top or bottom?

suspension setup will be key as well..

Suck up the limiter if you can..

Soften the preload a bit on the front track shock too

Hey..

Yes a 09 600 is CFI.... No Jetting

Put 10-54 Weights in...

Put 19-41 Gears in with a 76 chian..

If you really want to get going... Change you Helix to a RMK one.. and the Spring!!

Watch where you get gas.. or Bring lots of "Good" Fuel..

You never know what your buying..

Ride it like you stole IT!!

Good Luck

Like MTN horse said. Suck the limiter strap up as short as it will go. You can also remove your rear coupling blocks to get back some of the weight transfer. Don't take out the front ones. Remove the windage plates on the secondary clutch if it has them on there for better cooling.

2 grams doesn't sound like enough weight. What is your elevation? I would consult your dealer if you don't have the gearing and clutching charts for different elevations. You will need to be set up for 8-10k ft. I just got back from the snowie range. We were around 9-10k on the GPS during most of our riding. Jesse.

My stock limiter strap does not have any holes besides the ones it came set up with. I imagine I could drill some in. I really don't want to stick too much money in this sled, since I hope to be snowchecking something this spring, and I don't want to buy a new chain if I can help it. Thanks for all the replies so far.

Short tracks are an absolute blast in the pow...until you get stuck. Hope for heat and consolidated snow.

If that doesn't happen, renting a sled is a great option. Maybe 100-150 a day? You can probably rent a beacon and probe as well assuming you don't own them.

I am anticipating loving mountain riding. I do think I will rent a longer track one day. I am going to be 50 in a couple weeks, been riding since '67, really worrying that I will be hooked enough that my snowcheck this year will be a longer track model, a 800 Etech or maybe a Polaris. Not sure about the Polaris CFI's yet, have had a few troubles with my 600, and the 8's are supposed to be a lot more troublesome.
