M858 clutch kits?

If I’da known about the c&s kit before ordering the Ibexx kit on Black Friday I might have tried them as they’re local, which would be beneficial for troubleshooting and whatnot. I just have a hard time trusting them though as they didn’t used to have a very good reputation as a shop here locally. They seem pretty popular these days though, so maybe things have changed over the years.

Since N. Utah was finally blessed with some deep pow I was able to put the Speedwerx kit through the ringer. Rode in 2 to 3' of fresh pow and the clutching performed flawlessly all day long. I set it up per their instructions and just rode it. The lazy bottom and mid is basically non existent, held 8-8100 all day long on long pulls and seemed to backshift just fine. Unrelated I only had one powder bog all day long but she was fully covered and I was on the exhaust side. I did spend some time sealing the gaps I could find in the lower intake. Sled is the 165 Sno Pro with Speedwerx clutching and Diamond S can

At 10000+ feet my m858 and my buddies m858 both only pull 7900 rpm on powder climbs. Replaced sp boots, adjusted exh cable, double checked clutches, tried another belt. Seems to shift fine- if I change to a higher rate primary spring what should I go with all other clutch components stock. Sled rips just need a bit more up top

58 weights in it now

I guess you could try a bit lighter finish rate on the primary spring but that could also lead to belt slip. Seems odd that 58 grams are only pulling 7900rpm. My dealer was hitting 8200-8300 on a breakin ride with 58s on three of their sleds. Something somewhere is off.

Random thought. I saw a post on Facebook about spark plug boots causing some issues and guys were swapping to some from POO. Wonder if something could be happening there causing your low rpm.

I changed boots already cuz it was down to 7400…. Real turd. Thinking a 46 helix could also help

Stock is 120/265, bdx blue spring 125/290 should work.

Mine was doing the same thing dragging down to 7400. I rode 11,000ft last week with 58s, 46 helix. Once the SP/boot issue was figured out I would peak at 8100 and hold 7900 in deep pow/climbs. I had a lighter secondary spring in it though, so putting stock back in and will try that out again. I had the stock spring in the ride before but swapped it out thinking I was chasing clutching, when it was really a spark issue. Went with the Cat boots from the ascender, and put in different plug wires as well.

Has anyone that has the C&S or speedwerx kit ever actually tested against other sleds? My IBexx felt like it ran good but it wasnt until I had my boys on my stock sleds that it became apparent how terrible it was.

How terrible is it?

I have not. My daughter's 146 has stock clutching but only pulls 7900 and inconsistent on rpm. Seat of pants feels night and day better. Belt comes up another half inch on clutch over stock.

My stock 600 catalyst would out climb it in deep powder. (600 is 153 2.6 858 is 165 3") My sons 2022 alpha would outrun me 20 sled lengths in a long steep powder climb. I couldn't get over the hill and he would fly over it with ease. Felt good going up the trail but seat of the pants can be very misleading.

And yes I put the stock clutching back in the next day and the 858 destroyed them when we went out again.

Comparing mine (Speedwerx) vs my friends stock 154, he is able to climb a length or two higher and seems to lift the front end much easier when on and off the throttle. There is a 80 lb weight difference between the two of us. He also thinks that the mid range is much better but on the top end the sleds feel similar.
