m8 rear shock

I have a 2008 m8 and my rear fox shock is cracked. I want to just buy a new one so I was wondering if I should get same shock or if there are better aftermarket shocks that would work better?

rear float is about $500

Av8er what the heck is with half your posts being in the title spot?? :face-icon-small-con lol

You could find a good used shock im sure if you're worried about spending too much. Some guys opt for the coil over fox zero pro.

I would call Gas Shock Repair in Rigby Id. He normally had some brand new or rebuilt ones for a good price. He also does custom valving on his shocks according to your weight and riding style. I got mine revalved by him two seasons ago and have had great luck with them!

The updated Fox Float 2 from cat that came out last season was a big improvement over the standard float on my 10 M8. I picked mine up from Kens Sports last season; great prices on there shocks

Just another option for you

Before last season this is what I ordered: (prices are off of alpha-sports)
3604-200 -- spring retainer $5
1704-936 -- 2011 rear spring $55 ($97 for the 2012)
2704-190 -- 2012 rear shock $279 ($419 for the 2011)

Works great WAY better than the POS float. I carry 2 gallons of fuel on my tunnel & was never happy at all with the fox float regardless of pressure. The reason I went with the 2012 rear shock is that it is $150 cheaper than the 2011. I also wanted the 210lb spring rate (2011) rather than the 175lb (2012) to support my 200lb body + backpack + gas on tunnel.

I am sure there are much better setups than this, but at about $300 (Michelle @ Oregon trail) it was a no-brainer for me and it works great on my turbo m8. If you want the same POS fox float back on there, I will sell you mine cheap. --Matt

The cheapest route would be to just get the parts to fix your existing shock and have it revalved at the same time. Looks like you are going to be about $300 for a stock replacement. Zbroz makes a replacement for $550 and Raptor makes one for $525. I would go for one of those options and have a way better ride and have the ability to adjust the compression.

.......another vote for Andy @ Gas Shock repair. Quick turnaround and will valve to your weight and riding style.

Not that Raptors or Z-broz are not a great option.......but if $$ is of concern, Andy is the man.
