M8 or M1000??

I bought an 07 M8 last year brand new. I am a stock guy and not overly concerned with HP because, frankly, all of the stock sleds today go amazing places and I like the challenge.

I have had no problems with my M8 and it is an incredible kick to ride...it has some serious fun factor. My brother rides an 05 rev and while that is an awesome sled he has trouble doing the boondocking and sidehilling that my M8 will do.

Summary: if you aren't into only HP and want a fun sled to ride with a lot of finesse, then an M8 will work for you.

PS - I did ride the 09 M8 and M1000 and both were incredible.

come-on guys, Summitprick is entitled to his dendrite challenged and misguided opinion. That's what makess the forum great and interaining all at the same time. :face-icon-small-win

As for the sleds...I currently ride a 08 M-1000 162. There are some awsome sleds to prick from in the market place these days (prices suck thought) and the new M series 8 and 1000 are just two examples. If having to choose between these two sleds, I would take a long hard look at the majority of my riding style. If copious amounts of torque and the ability to climb stuff you would generally pass by makes you feel oh so special, then the M-1000 with some mods is the sled for you. If you're more of a bundocker...play in the meadows...with some sane climbing kinda guy, then take a close look at the M-8. Keep in mind, the modded M-1000, with a few lightweight items, gives it the weight of the M-8 with a substantial power boost. Truly the best of both worlds.

Im starting to think of going with the M8. An M1000 would be awesome to have but right now im not sure i need that much power. I think just going to an M8 over my ZR 800(162") is gonna be a crazy change. I have noticed that a sled that is designed to ride in the mountains works alot better than an extended short track, especially a ZR that i bet has 100lbs on an M8. Also the group that i ride with in the mts, the biggest sled is a CPC1000 156", so i could get somewhere i dont need to be and no one could get to me. Im not always climbing hills and highmarking either, i like to fart around in the trees and do some boondocking...i think thats more interesting sometimes anyways. And its kinda hard for me to ask the bank for $9000 to buy a sled that i will ride once or twice a year nor do i wanna pay that much for something that will just sit in the shop for 10 months out of the year.

no self respectin man has ever bought a sled rode it for a day and brought it back just to say... " i think i should get hte one that costs less and makes less power"

Get the 1000. There are better ways you could spend $10000 ( pritty much any polaris product) but if you realy want to be a cat rider, atleast get the the sno pro becasue green and orange cats just don't look right :D

I ride an 08 m1000 and trust me, you don't want to be standing beside your shiny new m8 wishing it was a 1000 like all the guys in my group that have their shiny new m8s.

I'm going from a 1000 back to an 800 for next year. I found that I never NEEDED the power of a 1000 to have fun and go where we were headed. I'm not willing to have a heavier sled anymore, just so I can climb a bit higher, or a bit faster than the guys on the 800's. I'm going from an RT 1000 to an '08 M8; and looking forward to riding a much lighter sled next season. :)

an RT 1000 is diferent than a M1000. RT's are pigs and a well set up 800 rev usually climbes just as high. You are comparing an orange to a granny smith apple and a green apple.

hm

seriusly i live in alaska and have climbed from 900-4400 feet without missing a beat anyone that says the m8 is underpowered is being ignorant, they will perform stock, you wont be dissapointed inless someone has 15k into a sled next to you.....

more important issues would be whats your weight?

riding style?

usual snow conditions?

going to mod or stay stock/warrantyable.

160lbs without gear

hillclimb a little, boondocking

usually pow or slightly set-up

maybe turbo someday but stock for now(single pipe?)

I have owned both the m8 and the m1000. I sold my 05 king cat to buy the m8, this was a large mistake. I sold the m8 and bought an m1000. I put a jaws silencer on the 1000. The m8 and m1000 used the same amount of fuel, a phenomenon I will never understand. You can feel the difference in weight, the extra 25 lbs on the front of the 1000 is 100% noticeable, IT all depends on what your buddies ride!!!!!! If we all had 440's, we'd have just as much fun, then one buddy get's a 600, so I get a 700, he get's an 800. Upshot of the deal is I love the 1000, but I do my fair share of point and go hillclimbing, the m8 is a great all around machine. The resale value seems to be the weakness of the m8, but a great oppurtunity to buy a slightly used one.

I ride a xrs 800 and love it . This year i got my wife a sno-pro m8 after riding both machines i found that thier is about 10foot between highmarks . One of the guys that i was riding was on a 07 m1000 with y-pipe and a can he was about 20foot higher than us . On that same day my wife put it into a group of trees that would have sent my xrs out on the end of a heil-rope we got it out of the trees thier was not even a nic on it . It is a fun machine you will be happy with either one . just dont ever ride a machine with boost it is like taking drugs you just cant do it once

let the M8 shine the way:)

i think my M8 may be the shinyest one of all, and never once have i set next to my buds with the M1000's and wished i had one. just the opposite, after 3/4 of a day they're all wore out from trying to keep up with the precious. if you have good riding skills the M8 is one awesome machine!!! almost 4,000 miles on mine and has never left me stranded once. long live the M8!!!

the stock M8 is a turd, the stock M1000 is a great sled.....but toss a few $$$ at one or the other and you will have a kick arse sled

i suggest the DB turbo, why fart around with BBs and pipes and whatever else....get the turbo and be done with it

They are both great sleds. I vote 1000. There is no replacement for displacment. Its that much more reliable hp. Having ridden both I can say that the wieght difference is not an issue.

The new stock 09 M8's are far from turds. In fact almost everyone that went and rode the demo's came away more impressed with the stock M8 than the stock M1. If your going to mod it than M1 all the way, however, if your going to leave it stock I would go with the M8 for sure. The 08 M8's are also great sleds. Many people think the power is weak but it's because the engines are so smooth and the thing makes peak power at 7600 rpm. Your not revving it to 8000 or more RPM to get the power out of it.
