Wow super informative thread ! I have an07 M8 . I weigh 220lb+ gear .
I rarely (never) have the highmark on a pure power climb (there are turbo nytros, xp's, M1000's, better riders, lighter riders) but I've rode 2000 mountain miles this year.
I do go out each day and have a blast. I have not held our group back from where we are going although I don't always put the first line through the tougher routes. I still sit on ridges and mountain tops and savour the views. We boondock in the meadows then sit around a fire cooking smokies and bs'ing. I occasionally scare myself on poorly planned descents or fast descents due to spring snow.
I have 3800 miles on my sled, never blown a belt (used 5 total changing out for piece of mind or better performance), been towed out once for a broken steering post and other than that enjoyed every single day.
So who is getting more out of their sledding experience? The guys on the huge turboes flying up the Monster? Those wholead or those who follow? The fastest rider or whomever gets the highmark in any given group? Those who chose to play in the meadows or just go exploring and try and connect two dots on a map? The family on their kitty cats and old phazers that follow the groomed trail to the cabin, have lunch and then head home?
Just go ride your sled! If all you are worried about is being the best climber or fastest; most of you will be disappointed because there are a select few elite athletes with the resources available to them that you will never catch up to. So for those of you who will never be happy being second best; I'm sorry. For the rest of us let's enjoy what left of the season !
