m8 aero 66... who is running one?

i've ran an a couple aero 53's, an auto on an 800 and an auto on a 1000 but have yet to even see an 800 with a 66 aero on it. how do they run? are they that much better then a 53? comparable to the auto setup boost to boost?

i dont wanna hear about the pros and cons, been there done that... just how does the 66 compare performance wise to the 53 and the auto.

thanks

I will have something to compare to this year although it isnt a cat a buddy of mine is swapping his 53 for a 66 on his xp, i know he could only run 9lbs max on the 53, so he should be able to tap into alot more power with the 66

I rode one last year on a SnoPro 8 with T-sled front and rear and a CR tunnel. The chassis was fenominal as was the throttle response. What wasn't so cool was when my buddy sold the sled to a guy and the turbo lunched 100 miles later (like 600 miles total) and the company wouldn't do anything for him.

I'm looking for a used 53 to put on my sled if anyone want to get some coin out of theres?

I have everything else just need the 53 aero turbo.

Yea I know!!! I lunched 4 --#66 last year and they fixed 2 and aero LLC sent 2 hybryd turbos back to fix the problem ,,,,,well they went only 100 miles,,,, and they wouldnt stand behind them!!!!!!!1200$ rebuild ( they Blamed the amsoil)
so I went to a garrett 2871 and wont look back!!!! I do think that as long as you run around 10# the #66 is safe and 12 occasionally but 12 -14 constantly NO WAY lost 4 of them!!! My garrett runs 12-14 constantly NO ISSUES

lb for lb 66 vs auto... lets say keeping it in that 10-12lbs with that being the most a guy would run, would you sway to the 66 or stay with the auto.

do you think the 66 is noticably more responsive on the bottom and midrange?

the auto for me just didnt have the bottom end i like where when i had the 53 it was a ton of fun, just didnt have the top end like the auto. guess i got spoiled for bottom and midrange responsiveness with the carbed big bores, hard to go back to that being spoiled now with the efi controllers out there today.

66

I ran 66 on 1000 last year now moved it down to m8 for this year i like the simple clean install of a areo . Ran 8- 10 on 1000 plan to push m 8 10-12 tops with av gas. i have not had a lot of exp. with turbo sleds but areo seems easy to tune ? maybe boost climbs more gradual with areo than auto i dont know.

I know that if I line up with my buddys 66 aero with my garrett that we are almost always dead even and yes the aero feels or mabe sounds more responsive but we can hold hand going down a meadow!!!

So he says!!!!!!!! 12-14PSI ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Im not worried about him at 12psi his aero wont last and I will have to tow him out again

Ran a 66 Aero last year on 09 M8. Started at 9lbs first ride, ended up at 12lbs at end of the season. I rode a day with an 08 M8 53 Aero set at 10 lbs. Not identical sleds, but similar(different tracks, clutching, etc). 2 completely different sleds, even with mine truned down to 10 lbs, it had a noticeable advantage albeit not night and day difference. Will likely turn it up to 14lbs this year and see if the turbo holds together!? I haven't had the chance to compare it to an auto, but the 66 is very smooth and comes on very fast at 10 lbs. At 12 lbs make sure your friggin hands are duct taped to the bars when you drop the hammer if you have any kind of traction.

53 aero

I traded an CPC m8 this year with a 53 on it for the right price I will take it off and put a Garrett on it.

We have run both the 53 and 66. I find the 53 will spool a little quicker but not really noticeable. If you ride the sleds back to back you will notice it. I have noticed the 66 will push more air at 10 psi than the 53(and it goes to say its bigger).
We have ran our M-8 test sled to 16psi last year. Friggen increadable!!!
At 16psi it sounds like a freight train. In testing at 12psi we had no seeping from the pto seal. 13psi took 1 hr to see oil. 14psi it was 15min and above it blew oil right off the bat. That sled had 8-10 days at 16psi. The rest of the year it ran at 12psi. Put over 1000 mountain miles on that sled. Intercooled, non intercooled, airbox, filters,no filters ect. Yes a tone of testing.
Very clean set ups and I know the intercoolers work well. And they fit under the hood.We have had very good luck with the areos and will continue to use them.Pics can be viewed at www.abspow.ca

I have a GT2860 TM7 (15 psi) and i compare it with a TM8 aero 66 (15 psi), better throttle response with 66, but Garett have a better push after start.

we are building our third m8t with a 66 and if your not running pump gas the 53 will probobly not be as reliable it can't handle the boost and the 66's are running great at 10pds its eating 1200's easy we also ran 1 m8 and a few m7's with a 53 and they dont even come close to the 66m8's if you really want a real answer google ogden valley motorsports get there # and ask them all the question you want to know and im sure that they can answer all of them

Our turbos are not designed to run high boost at extreme elevations. It's when guys push their Aerochargers past their limits that things go wrong. The Aerocharger is unlike and other turbo and is very complex in comparison to conventional turbochargers. Like any complex machine you have to respect it's boundaries. You cannot expect a company to warranty a product that has been taken past it's limitations.

Aside form that you are correct, the 66 is a great turbo for lower boost applications. Keep the turbo at boost levels that it's happy with and it will last forever and we have a massive customer base that can prove that. Garretts are great turbos too but there isn't a turbo out there that can match the responsiveness and driveability of an Aerocharger.

kawgrn
What did you notice for difference in throttle responce? How does the 2871 feel at 10lbs of boost compared to the aero at 10lbs of boost?
You can only run 10lbs of boost on a aero 66? Any more then that and they will fall apart and not be warrantied?
